Summary

Overview

A'Pieu is a South Korean cosmetics brand based in Seoul, known for affordable skincare and colour makeup aimed at a young audience. It was launched as the online label of Able C&C, the company behind Missha, and is often described as Missha's younger, more trend-driven sister brand [5]. The brand remains operational, with an active multilingual website and stated distribution across 20 countries — but its future ownership is uncertain: in July 2025 its parent listed it for sale.

According to the brand's own account, the A'Pieu online store launched in February 2008 [2]. A separate, unverified figure placed the launch in 2006; the company's about-page is the more authoritative source and dates the operational launch to February 2008 [2].

Origin

A'Pieu was created as a corporate brand rather than the project of a named founder; neither the brand's own materials nor parent company Able C&C's history page identify an individual founder for the label. It began life online in February 2008 and opened its first physical store in April 2011, at Ewha Women's University in Seoul [2]. From the start it was positioned as a younger sibling to Missha, targeting an audience the company describes as roughly 18-to-24 years old.

Ownership

A'Pieu is owned by Able C&C, a Korean cosmetics company established in 2001 that also operates Missha and a portfolio of other beauty labels. In June 2017, Able C&C was acquired by the South Korean firm IMM Private Equity, and A'Pieu passed to the new owner as part of that portfolio [3].

In July 2025, IMM Private Equity announced plans to divest A'Pieu separately, with Samjong KPMG acting as lead advisor and the deal estimated at around 20 billion Korean won (roughly 14.4 million US dollars) [5]. Trade press reported that the sale followed repeated failed attempts since 2022 to sell Able C&C as a whole, and that A'Pieu accounted for about 10 percent of the parent's 264 billion won (around 190 million US dollars) in sales the previous year [5].

Philosophy & positioning

The company sums up its outlook as "uncomplicated and effortless, while being true to oneself," and frames the brand around three stated pillars: playful but earnest, cheerful but attentive to detail, and effortlessly true to oneself. Its tagline is "Vibrant but sincere, pretty but witty." A'Pieu's prices sit firmly in the drugstore range — the brand cites a typical span of 8,000 to 20,000 won — and the label is consistently described in third-party coverage as an accessible, value-oriented entry point into Korean beauty [5]. Editorial profiles have characterised its approach as favouring light textures and gentle, well-tolerated formulas.

Products & innovation

A'Pieu's catalogue centres on skincare and makeup. Its best-known skincare line is built around madecassoside, a derivative of Centella Asiatica; the brand's Madecassoside Ampoule is marketed as containing 99.99 percent Centella Asiatica extract [6]. On the colour side, the Juicy-Pang range of tints, blushers and lip products is the brand's signature, and one reviewer in the Philippines described the Juicy Pang Tint as A'Pieu's "number one product" [6]. The brand also reports strong cumulative sales for its hero series, citing more than two million units for the Madecassoside line and over three million for the Juicy-Pang line by 2020. Within its haircare offering, a French editorial singled out the Raspberry Hair Vinegar as "iconic" [7]. The brand states that all A'Pieu products are made in South Korea [8].

Recognition

Beyond product reviews, A'Pieu has drawn industry coverage chiefly around its corporate situation. Trade outlet Chaileedo reported the 2025 divestiture and the brand's share of parent-company sales, while consumer editorials such as Project Vanity and Beautylau have profiled the label as Missha's accessible "little sister." The brand benefits, according to trade coverage, from global demand for entry-level Korean makeup, particularly in the United States [5].

Current status

A'Pieu is currently active. Its global English-language website is operational, it claims distribution in 20 countries across Asia, the Americas and Europe, and it received industry coverage as recently as July 2025 [5]. That coverage, however, concerned its parent's decision to put the brand up for sale, so while A'Pieu is fully operating, its ownership is in transition and a future buyer had not been named at the time of reporting.
