Bats

Bats is a Finnish antiperspirant brand sold through pharmacies and owned by Orkla Care Finland (Orkla Care Oy), part of the Norwegian group Orkla ASA [7]. Its range targets ordinary and heavy sweating with a line of roll-ons, a cream and two concentrated "Maximum Protection" sticks, all built around aluminium-salt formulas that the company pairs with what it calls a patented active skincare system. The brand summarises its positioning in a single tagline, "Tehokas hikoiluun, Hellä iholle" — "Effective against sweating, Gentle on skin."

The brand is active. Its site carried a 2026 copyright, and the full product range remained in distribution across Finnish pharmacies, with newer Expert variants listed on the Orkla Care Finland portfolio page [7]. Bats operates as a single-country brand, with Finland as its primary market.

Bats does not publish a founding year, a founder, or a headquarters location, and no exact origin date appears across its own pages or third-party sources. What the company does state is experience: its antiperspirants are "manufactured with over 30 years of experience" [2], which places the brand's origins around the early 1990s without committing to a year. That long presence is echoed by readers — commenters on a Finnish beauty blog describe using the product for "some twenty years" [9] — but the founding year is treated as unknown rather than inferred from a heritage claim.

The brand sits within Orkla's personal-care portfolio in Finland. Orkla expanded in this category partly through its 2015 acquisition of the Swedish company Cederroth; Cederroth's own brand list, however, does not include Bats [8], so the antiperspirant appears to be a separate Finnish line within Orkla Care rather than a Cederroth product. Orkla ASA describes itself as an industrial investment company focused on consumer brands.

The Bats range is organised by strength and format. Standard roll-ons come in a fragrance-free "Mild" version and a scented "Women" version, alongside a cream antiperspirant sold in a tube for use on underarms, hands and feet. Above these sit two 20 ml concentrates marketed as "Maximum Protection": Bats Expert Original and Bats Expert Strong, the latter described by the company as developed for people whose sweating disrupts daily activities.

The active ingredient differs by line, which two sources record differently. The brand's own usage page lists aluminium chloride in an alcohol-based formulation for the concentrated Expert products [2], while the pharmacy retailer Apomera lists aluminium chlorohydrate as the active in the standard roll-ons [10]. The two are not in genuine contradiction: they describe different formulas in the same range, the alcohol-based concentrate on one hand and the everyday roll-ons on the other. Antiperspirants in general, the company explains, work because aluminium salts temporarily plug the sweat ducts, a plug that sheds naturally within days.

Bats presents skin tolerance as central to its formulations. According to the company, an "active skincare combination" — which it calls a patented active skincare system — keeps the skin's pH from dropping significantly during use, reducing irritation [2]. The cream is separately stated to contain no ethyl alcohol and to suit sensitive skin; the alcohol-based Expert formula, by contrast, is not alcohol-free, a distinction the brand's materials make explicit.

On efficacy, the company's claims scale with product strength. The range is described as clinically proven to protect against sweat and odour for two to five days [2]; Expert Original is stated to be clinically proven to give highly effective protection for three to five days, and Expert Strong is said to last up to five days [7].

Bats is sold through Finnish pharmacies, the channel the company points customers to directly, and through pharmacy e-commerce. It is not positioned as a mass-market or department-store product.

The brand has a documented following among long-term users. The Finnish consumer blog Ostolakossa, written by Virve Fredman, reviewed the antiperspirant under the heading "Kulttidödö" — a "cult deo" — and reported keeping underarms "almost completely dry all day" without irritation over two months of daily use [9]. Commenters on the same review described two decades of continued use, including of the cream version, which supports the brand's claim to a durable presence in the Finnish market.

Bats is an active brand. Its website was live with a 2026 copyright, its full assortment was in pharmacy distribution, and the Orkla Care Finland page listed current Expert variants [7]. Its scope is national: Finland is the home and primary market, and the brand has no broader international presence.
