Overview
BRUME ORPIN is a French niche fragrance house based in Paris, founded in 2024 by Tiphaine Cogez Cousseau [1]. The company presents itself as a sustainable haute perfumery house, building its perfumes around a deliberately small palette of natural and green-chemistry ingredients and a France-based supply chain. It is an active, early-stage brand: the line launched at retail in late 2024 and was still expanding through 2025 [7].
The house works mainly in fragrance — eau de parfum, perfume extraits and refillable scented candles — at niche-luxury prices. In June 2025, less than a year after launch, its perfume THEOR received a Responsible Innovation award from the Fragrance Foundation France [6].
Origin & founders
The brand was founded in 2024 after what the company describes as four years of research and development [2]. Its founder, Tiphaine Cogez Cousseau, came to the project from a long career inside the fragrance industry. According to the brand, she previously held roles at Rochas and Balmain and worked with Francis Kurkdjian from 2008, the year before that house launched, before establishing her own maison. This career account is drawn from the company's own narrative rather than independent reporting.
Some coverage records the founder's surname differently: the trade and brand sources spell it "Cousseau," while one French review gives "Rousseau," which appears to be a typo on that publication's part [8]. The company is headquartered at 75 Boulevard Haussmann in central Paris; regional press has also noted the founder's personal ties to Lyon, where she lives [7].
Philosophy & positioning
BRUME ORPIN positions itself at the intersection of luxury perfumery and environmental responsibility. The company says it "pioneers a new vision of Haute Parfumerie, where creative excellence, ingredient integrity and environmental responsibility redefine luxury fragrance." Its stated approach is to narrow rather than widen: from more than 10,000 materials available to modern perfumery, the house says it selects a refined palette of fewer than fifty, chosen for purity, traceability and low allergen risk.
This restraint is also framed as a commercial stance. The brand releases few products, and editorial coverage has read that scarcity as part of its identity — one regional outlet contrasted it with an industry "that multiplies launches but dilutes the message" [7]. The stated brand values are precision and elegance, environmental responsibility, French craftsmanship, ingredient quality over quantity, and durable design [2].
Products & innovation
The range is organised as a collection of eaux de parfum, most priced in the same band, alongside higher-concentration extraits and refillable candles. Named perfumes include THEOR ("Shared Memories"), ODENUI ("Magnetic Nights"), LEAU ("Vibrant Freshness") and ODOSMAN ("Green Urban Elegance"), with the VILLA BRISA and VILLA OSMAN candles offered in refillable form.
A recurring theme is the pairing of natural materials with synthetic molecules derived from green chemistry. THEOR is built around French wheat bran with the captive molecules Ecomusk and Tonkalactone for a musky finish [5]; these are trademarked ingredients supplied by upstream fragrance manufacturers rather than the brand's own inventions. LEAU combines fennel, French carrot seed, pear and Mediterranean galbanum with synthetic notes including the Symrise captive Pearadise. The alcohol base, the company notes, is derived from French beetroot.
Sustainability
Sustainability is central to how the house describes itself, and the claims extend from formula to packaging. BRUME ORPIN states that all its fragrances are made in France, with components — fragrance, bottles, boxes and paper — designed and produced locally; some assembly is carried out by hand in partnership with ESAT workshops that support social inclusion. The company also says it works with partners holding the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant distinction, a French state label for heritage craft firms.
On packaging, the brand describes bottles made from mass-tinted recycled glass produced by Pochet, boxes of expanded cork finished with a paint derived from Breton algae, caps made from biodegradable milk casein, and screw pumps intended to ease recycling. Formulas are described as biodegradable, with what the company calls controversial ingredients excluded to reduce allergen risk [3]. The certifications field in the brand's record is otherwise empty.
Recognition
In June 2025 BRUME ORPIN won a Responsible Innovation Award in the up-and-coming brand category at the Fragrance Foundation France Awards, for THEOR; the ceremony was held on 12 June 2025 [6]. The brand and French press also refer to the prize under its French name, the Prix de l'Innovation Responsable [5].
Beyond the award, the house drew early trade and editorial attention in 2025. A review in Kleo Beauté described it as a new French niche house and compared LEAU favourably to Frédéric Malle and Maison Crivelli [8]. Regional and trade outlets, including BW Confidential and Lyon Eco et Culture, covered its retail rollout and positioning over the same period.
Current status
BRUME ORPIN is active and in an early growth phase. After launching at Printemps Haussmann in Paris in November 2024, it expanded to additional Printemps locations and, according to regional press, to 14 specialist outlets in Italy, reaching Printemps Lyon in mid-July 2025 [7]. The most recent activity recorded in its sources is the July 2025 launch of LEAU alongside that retail expansion. Ownership is independent; the brand reports no parent company and no acquisitions.
