Summary

Overview

Christina Aguilera Fragrances is an American celebrity fragrance and cosmetics brand built around the singer Christina Aguilera. It was founded in 2007 through a licensing agreement with Procter & Gamble, which manufactured and distributed the products through 2016 [2]. The line debuted that October with a self-titled eau de parfum and has grown into a long-running franchise of more than fifteen scents, alongside body lotions, sprays, bath gels and deodorants.

The brand remains active. Its most recent release, Infinite Xtina, arrived in 2024 under Revlon, which holds the global license [5]. In Europe — its strongest market — Wikipedia records the line being referred to as the "number-one celebrity fragrance brand" [2].

Origin and founders

The fragrance line grew out of Aguilera's own move into beauty rather than from an existing perfume house. Founded in 2007 under the Procter & Gamble license [2], it placed the singer at the creative centre of the project. An earlier Europe-only perfume, Xpose, had preceded it in 2004, but the 2007 self-titled scent is treated as the franchise's true debut and was launched in October of that year.

Ownership

Ownership of the fragrance business has passed through several hands. Procter & Gamble held it from 2007 to 2016, when the company began shedding parts of its beauty portfolio. The Christina Aguilera line had been scheduled to move to Coty as part of that wider divestiture, but according to Women's Wear Daily it dropped out of the Coty deal in January 2016, alongside Dolce & Gabbana, and was instead acquired by Elizabeth Arden, Inc. [3]. Revlon — which itself acquired Elizabeth Arden in 2016 — has held the global license since [2]. The franchise therefore sits within Revlon's stable alongside brands such as Elizabeth Arden, Cutex, Halston and Elizabeth Taylor.

At the time of the 2016 sale, a Stifel analyst estimated the license generated roughly $80 million in annual sales and about $10 million in EBITDA; the purchase price was not disclosed [3]. George Cleary, then president of global fragrances at Arden, described it as "this stellar brand... one with a global footprint and a significant international presence in Europe," and Aguilera said she planned to keep developing fragrances with the company [3].

Philosophy and positioning

The scents and packaging are styled around Aguilera's personal identity. According to Wikipedia, the fragrances draw on "Aguilera's mother and son, her childhood in Japan and a wide variety of flowers and exotic fruits." The bottles use a curved silhouette meant to echo the singer's hourglass figure, finished with a lace motif inspired by what the brand calls her love of vintage glamour. As a mass-market celebrity line sold through retailers across North America, Latin America, Asia and Europe, it sits at drugstore rather than luxury pricing.

Products and innovation

The self-titled 2007 eau de parfum opened a steady run of annual launches, including By Night (2009), Royal Desire (2010) and Red Sin (2012). Floral notes recur across the range, with magnolia, jasmine, tuberose, gardenia, freesia, rose and Valencia orange among the recurring ingredients. The franchise has continued into a newer signature era: Xtina (2023) was presented as Aguilera's bold new signature fragrance [4], followed by Infinite Xtina in 2024 [5]. Both recent scents are marketed by Revlon.

Recognition

The line reached bestseller status in the United Kingdom in 2007, 2009 and 2010, and Wikipedia notes it received awards at the Duftstars and FiFi Awards. A 2008 promotional event at Macy's Herald Square reportedly generated over $50,000 in sales in a single weekend.

Current status

The brand is active and operates as a global, Revlon-licensed franchise. Releases have continued more or less yearly from 2007 through 2024, and the 2024 launch of Infinite Xtina marks its most recent visible activity [5]. Because it is a licensed celebrity line sold through third-party retailers, it has no dedicated consumer brand site of its own; the singer's official site does not sell the fragrances.
