Overview
Cobagin is a German care brand for sensitive body and intimate skin, built around bovine colostrum, the first milk a cow produces after calving. The company dates its start to 2017, while the same homepage gives 2018 as the year it has been on the market [1]. Its products are aimed mainly at people with lichen sclerosus, a chronic autoimmune skin condition, and at dryness, itching and irritation linked to menopause, sport or scarring.
The brand is operated by Identymed GmbH, a small company based in Munich [3], and describes itself as a family-run business from Bavaria. Its ointments, creams and wash lotion are made in the company's own facility in Rothenthurm, Switzerland [2], and are sold as over-the-counter pharmacy products. Cobagin is currently active.
Origin & founders
Cobagin does not name its founders. On its website the company presents itself as a family-run business from Bavaria that deliberately chose not to pursue quick, mineral-oil-based solutions and instead invested in developing fully natural care products.
According to the brand, Cobagin grew out of more than ten years of research into cow colostrum. The company says the work began as a scientific project and later became a product for everyday care of distressing and sometimes chronic skin complaints. Its stated ambition from the outset was to offer the first organic-certified care products made without mineral oil, paraffin or synthetic additives [1]. The site does not name a certification body or standard behind the organic wording.
History & milestones
The brand's own timeline is brief. Its homepage opens its "about" section with the words "Seit 2017" (since 2017), framing that year as the start of the brand, and a separate figure on the same page states that Cobagin has been on the market since 2018 [1]. The two dates can be read as the start of development and the market launch respectively; this article follows 2017 as the founding year.
In the following years the brand built its presence mainly among medical and pharmacy professionals. It lists a mention in the German pharmacy-trade magazine Forum pta in its September 2020 issue, and it invites doctors and pharmacists to order free product samples through its website.
In June 2024 the Swiss consumer-health magazine Gesundheitstipp named Cobagin in a reader question-and-answer piece on lichen sclerosus. Answering a 75-year-old reader whose prescribed ointment burned on application, the magazine suggested trying a fatty care cream, "for example Cobagin", while noting that severe cases often still need cortisone-based treatment [7].
Ownership
The company named in the Cobagin website's legal notice is Identymed GmbH, registered in Munich, with Vincent Pittana listed as managing director [3]. Identymed is a small independent company rather than part of a larger beauty group, and no acquisitions or changes of ownership are documented.
Philosophy & positioning
Cobagin's central argument is about what it leaves out. The brand says it deliberately avoids mineral oil, paraffins and fragrance, because these can form an occlusive film on the skin, that is, a sealing layer that covers the surface without adding moisture, and because fragrance can irritate sensitive skin [6]. On its homepage the company goes further, warning that long-term use of mineral-oil products in intimate care can leave the skin less able to produce its own moisture. It frames its own formulas as care that supports the skin's renewal rather than simply covering it.
The company describes its mission as working "in harmony with life and nature". Its homepage also carries a blunter line: "We are often the remedy of last resort. That is what drives us." Much of the site's language reflects that idea, presenting Cobagin as the product people turn to after other options have failed. A list of what the brand says it does not stand for includes cheap synthetic fillers, marketing promises without evidence and products that "could simply be replaced by Vaseline".
Cobagin sits at the upper end of the price range for its category, and its own FAQ addresses the question of why its products cost more than competitors'. The company's answer is that its natural active ingredients are more expensive to produce, and that only a small amount is needed per application.
Although the communication is aimed at women, because the conditions it focuses on mainly affect women, the brand says its products can be used regardless of sex or age, including on children, and on other areas such as the face and hands. The brand describes lichen sclerosus as an autoimmune disease that affects an estimated 3 to 4 percent of women and requires lifelong care.
Products & innovation
The range is small and built around texture rather than a long list of products. The best-selling item, according to the brand's homepage, is the Vollfett-Salbe (full-fat ointment), a water-free formula intended for sore, cracked and very sensitive skin, including lichen sclerosus and fresh surgical scars. Because it contains no water, the company says, it avoids the stinging that water-based products can cause on broken skin.
The Halbfett-Creme (semi-fat cream) is a water-in-oil emulsion for dry, itchy skin without open areas, and is suggested as a daily routine during hormonal changes. The Waschlotion is a gentle intimate wash, and the Suspension is a lighter, cream-like product for larger areas of the body, positioned for menopausal skin changes and general body care. The ointment and cream come in a 15 ml starter size and a 75 ml size. Outside skin care, the brand also sells VitaDona Folsäure, a folic-acid supplement for women who are trying to conceive, pregnant or breastfeeding.
Five natural ingredients carry the formulas:
- Colostrum, which the brand says comes from organic pasture-raised cows in Germany and is taken only from surplus milk that calves do not need [5]. Cobagin attributes skin renewal and barrier support to its growth factors. - Grape seed oil, cold-pressed from the leftovers of organic winemaking, which serves as the oil base and, according to the company, carries the other ingredients into the skin. - Frankincense extract, sourced from Oman, which the brand describes as anti-inflammatory and particularly relevant to lichen sclerosus. - Damask rose water, from organic cultivation, used as the water base of the semi-fat cream. - Aloe vera, used with the rose water for moisture and to help keep the intimate area's natural acidity in balance.
The technical claim at the heart of the brand concerns how the colostrum is processed. Cobagin says it developed its own cold-sterile extraction method, which it credits with preserving more of the active ingredients than conventional production [4]. The company also refers to a patented active-ingredient process, but gives no patent number or title [1]. It states that its colostrum production follows the ISO 9001 quality-management standard. Because the products contain no fragrance, the brand notes that they have an earthy natural smell.
The company describes its products as tested by gynaecologists with the rating "very good" and as gynaecologically and dermatologically certified [1]. It does not name the institute, study or date behind these ratings. No independent third-party certifications are documented.
Recognition
The only independent press coverage documented is the 2024 Gesundheitstipp answer that named Cobagin as an example of a fatty care cream for lichen sclerosus [7]. Beyond that, the brand lists several endorsements under the heading "known from and recommended by": the German women's magazine Brigitte Woman on the subject of lichen sclerosus, the pharmacy-trade magazine Forum pta, a patient association for lichen sclerosus, and the German S2k medical guideline on the condition. Its homepage also quotes a ward nurse at the Bad Oexen clinic who says she recommends the products to patients. These mentions are presented by the brand and have not been independently confirmed.
Current status
Cobagin is active. As of September 2026 it runs its own online shop, and the company says many pharmacies stock the products or can order them on request [1]. Its distribution centres on the German-speaking market, while production takes place in Switzerland. No new product launches or dated announcements from the past year are documented.
