Overview
Culti Milano is an Italian home-fragrance and personal-care company based in Milan. It was founded by interior designer Alessandro Agrati, who built the brand around the idea that rooms and objects can carry a signature scent — an approach the company calls the "Culture of Ambience." Its best-known signatures are a slender milk-bottle vessel and a rattan-stick diffuser, paired with a personal-care line of soaps, lotions and shampoos.
In April 2026 the company was acquired by Berger International (part of the Emosia Group / Argos Fund), which took a 77.17% controlling stake and triggered a mandatory tender offer for the remaining shares with the stated aim of delisting Culti Milano from the stock market [5]. The brand remains operationally active during the transition, with a Milan boutique and distribution across Europe, the UK, the United States and Asia.
Origin & founders
Culti Milano traces its beginnings to 1988, when Agrati began exploring the link between design and the senses, according to the company [4]. Some editorial coverage instead dates the founding to 1990 [6]; the brand site is internally consistent in placing the founding in 1988 and the invention of its rattan-stick diffuser in 1990, and the later date appears to conflate the two.
The brand's central object is its milk bottle. Agrati chose the form, the company says, after the bottle of milk delivered each morning to his childhood home — a vessel he valued for its essential, slender shape. From that starting point Culti developed the rattan-stick diffusion system, which the company describes as the natural progression of the concept and dates to 1990 [4]. Editorial features have gone further and credited Culti with "creating the world's first reed diffuser" [6]; the brand makes the invention claim for its own rattan-stick system, but it is not independently confirmed by patent records or other references.
Philosophy & positioning
Culti frames itself less as a fragrance maker than as a way of living with scent. It defines the "Culture of Ambience" as "creating spaces for the people, where objects and senses come together," and treats fragrance as part of interior design rather than an afterthought. The company sums up its stance in the line "We aim to improve the world with perfume. Because perfume is life."
Positioned at the luxury end of the market, the brand is sold through its own boutique at 53 Corso Venezia in Milan, its online store, and a range of premium retailers. In the United Kingdom these include the department stores Harrods, Selfridges, Fortnum & Mason and Fenwick; further retail partners carry the line in the United States and continental Europe.
Products & innovation
The product range spans home fragrance — diffusers, room sprays, candles and sachets — alongside a dedicated personal-care line of hand and body soaps, lotions, shampoo and conditioner, and body perfume. Special editions have included collaborations with Automobili Lamborghini and Elie Saab. Manufacturing is in Italy.
The Stile Tessuto diffuser is the brand's most frequently cited product across editorial and retailer pages, embodying the milk-bottle-and-rattan design; its scent is built from bergamot, cassis flowers and cotton leaves over a heart of jasmine and a base of white musk. In personal care, the Aramara line — a shampoo, conditioner and hand-and-body soap scented with bitter orange, bergamot and sandalwood — is described by the company as a gourmand fragrance inspired by a Sicilian pastry chef's work with bitter orange.
Ownership
Before its 2026 acquisition, Culti Milano traded on AIM Italia, the growth segment of the Milan stock exchange, under the ticker CULT, and had earlier sat within the holdings of KME Group and Intek Group. It was also an acquirer in its own right. In 2019 it bought a 50.01% majority of the luxury skincare brand Bakel Srl for €2.5 million, against an enterprise value of about €5.5 million, forming the Culti Milano Group [8]. The following year it acquired the B2B ambient-scent business Scent Company and, through a joint venture with Vitel International Hong Kong, established Culti Milano Asia to handle distribution in Asia, including a Shanghai subsidiary [5].
The April 2026 takeover by Berger International (Emosia Group / Argos Fund) reversed that position, placing Culti itself under new ownership [5].
Recognition
Culti Milano has been the subject of Italian financial-press coverage of its acquisitions and of UK lifestyle features. One such feature described the brand as having "earned cult status over the past 26 years" [6]. The brand maintains an entry on the fragrance database Fragrantica, though no dedicated English-language Wikipedia article exists.
Current status
Culti Milano is an acquired company. In April 2026 Berger International took a 77.17% controlling interest and launched a tender offer aimed at delisting the brand from AIM Italia [5]. Operations continued through the transition: the Milan boutique, the online store and the full product range, including the personal-care line, remained available, and distribution spanned Europe, the UK, the United States and Asia.
