Essabó

Essabó is a Spanish line of certified natural and organic solid cosmetics — bar soaps and solid shampoos — made by Jabones Beltrán, a family-run soap manufacturer based in Almazora, in the province of Castellón. The line grew out of a much older business: Jabones Beltrán traces its formal constitution to 1921 in the town of Xert, north of Castellón [4], while Essabó itself is a recent addition, launched when the company registered the "Essabó Eco" trademark in 2017. The products are made by traditional cold saponification and are certified by NATRUE, the international standard for natural and organic cosmetics.

The line is positioned as everyday natural hygiene for the whole family. The company describes it as a range of basics "that care for the skin, even the most sensitive, and the hair in a natural, respectful and effective way." Essabó remains active: the range expanded with NATRUE-certified solid shampoos in 2023, and the parent company continued to appear in independent coverage into 2025.

Essabó is not an independently founded company but the cosmetics line of Jabones Beltrán. The parent firm is one of Spain's oldest continuously operating traditional soap makers, and its own materials describe it as the country's only active traditional soap factory of family character to reach its centenary [2]. The company dates its formal founding to 1921 in Xert [4]; a secondary retailer account instead places the opening of the factory in 1922 [8]. The business itself points to an even earlier prehistory around 1908, when Mariano Beltrán Ferreres and María Beltrán Gimeno began making soap, a date the company says it confirmed through historical research it began in 2018.

Over the following century the firm passed through several generations of the Beltrán family and moved twice — to the city of Castellón in the 1940s and, in 1992, to an industrial site in Almazora, where it is still based. The Essabó trademark was registered in 2017, and the company presented the line at the Vivaness–Biofach trade fair the same year [4]. Jabones Beltrán marked its centenary in 2021. Essabó sits alongside the company's other brands, including the home-and-laundry line Biobel and the fragrance-free Beltrán Vital range for sensitive users.

Essabó's core products are solid: bar soaps for the body and solid shampoos for the hair. The shampoo range is split by hair type — a Nutritivo (nourishing) bar for dry hair, a Purificante (purifying) bar for oily hair, and a frequent-use version — alongside artisanal soap-shampoo bars and functional soaps such as an exfoliating bar and a fragrance-free bar for sensitive or atopic skin. The line sits at an accessible price point, with individual bars listed at a few euros each.

Formulas are built on plant oils and butters, including coconut, olive, jojoba, argan, castor and pomegranate oils together with shea and mango butter. The company says its coconut oil comes from sustainable agriculture and its olive oil from Spanish organic cultivation, and it states that the products are free of sulfates, silicones and parabens. According to the company, the formulas are vegan and made entirely from ingredients of natural origin [5].

The line's stated mission is to make certified ecological products based on traditional soap-making, "always of high quality, and respectful of the environment." Production uses cold saponification with constant stirring, a method the company says preserves the cosmetic properties of the ingredients, after which the soap is cut with stainless steel wire and finished by hand. Because the process needs little or no added energy, the company frames the results as sustainable products [6].

Essabó's central credential is NATRUE certification, an audit the brand describes as covering the whole production process — the quality, traceability and origin of the ingredients through to the finished cosmetic [1]. Under that scheme, the company notes that its ecological soaps meet the stricter organic threshold while its solid shampoos carry the natural-cosmetics certification. The handmade production also carries the Artesanía Comunidad Valenciana regional craft seal. Manufacturing takes place in the Castellón area, at the family firm established in 1921.

Independent coverage of Essabó is limited, in keeping with a niche regional producer. In February 2025 the organic-products publication Bio Eco Actual featured Jabones Beltrán and its brands, describing Essabó as certified soaps and solid shampoos for essential everyday hygiene [7]. No awards specific to the line are documented, and no dedicated encyclopedia entry exists for either Essabó or its parent company.

Essabó is active. Its primary market is Spain, where it is sold through the company's own online shop and a range of independent retailers, and the parent company began wider international expansion from 2022. The most recent developments recorded for the line are the 2023 launch of its NATRUE-certified solid shampoos [4] and continued editorial coverage of the parent company through 2025 [7].
