Overview
Evody, also styled Evody Parfums, is a French niche fragrance house based in Paris and founded by the mother-and-daughter team of Régine Droin and Cérine Vasseur [2]. The pair first opened a perfumery boutique in the Saint Germain des Prés district in 2006 — by their account the first shop in Paris devoted exclusively to niche fragrance — and launched their own perfume line in 2008 [2]. Sources differ on which date marks the brand's founding: editorial retailers such as Egoist and Dor Prestige give 2006 [4][5], while a co-founder interview dates the perfume label itself to 2008 [2]. The house remains active, with its most recent dated release, Desir Troublant, appearing in 2023 [3].
The name draws on "evodia", which the company describes as the "tree of a hundred thousand flowers", evoking the many scents still to be created.
Origin and founders
Régine Droin had a background in the cosmetics industry, while her daughter Cérine Vasseur came from fashion and haute couture. According to a Scentury interview with Vasseur, her mother had run a perfumery when Cérine was young, an early exposure that shaped her interest in scent. In 2006 the two opened the Evody boutique in Saint Germain des Prés, which they describe as the first Paris shop focused solely on niche perfume.
The move into making their own fragrances came, in Vasseur's telling, when the perfumer Aglaé Nicolas proposed a collaboration; after receiving two acquisition offers for the shop, the founders chose instead to concentrate on building the brand [2]. The first Evody compositions were released in 2008.
History and milestones
The boutique opened in 2006 and the in-house fragrance line followed in 2008, beginning with work led by Aglaé Nicolas and her team. Over time the house expanded into a portfolio organised into several collections, including Collection Première, built around classic olfactory themes such as leather, amber and orange blossom, and Collection d'Ailleurs, a set of compositions inspired by different cultures and places. The most recent dated launch identified is Desir Troublant in 2023 [3].
Philosophy and positioning
Evody presents its work as "mood perfumery" — in the company's words, "authentic olfactory compositions created according to the desires of the creators" [1]. It positions itself toward storytelling and high-quality raw materials rather than shock value; Vasseur has characterised the house's approach as thoughtfully classic rather than provocatively avant-garde, prioritising sincerity over scandal [2]. One retailer summarises the line's keynote as "refinement and elegance".
The house sits in the niche or luxury segment, with fragrances listed in the region of €129 to €199.
Products and innovation
Evody's range is built around eaux de parfum sold within named collections. Fragrances cited across retailer listings include Cuir Blanc, Musc Intense, Blanc de Sienne, Ombre Fumée and Ambre Intense. Within Collection d'Ailleurs, the house describes scents tied to specific cultural references, such as Onde 7, drawn from the Egyptian Kyphi ritual, and Noir d'Orient, built around incense, spices, amber and rum and presented as a tribute to India [2].
The perfumes are created in collaboration with outside noses rather than a single in-house perfumer. Named contributors include Aglaé Nicolas, Anne-Sophie Behaghel, Amélie Bourgeois, Philippe Romano, Cécile Zarokian, Corinne Cachen and Alexandra Monet.
Distribution
Evody is sold through niche-fragrance retailers, among them Jovoy Paris, and at the time of the Scentury interview its distribution spanned several European markets including the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Russia and Ukraine, with expansion into the Middle East under way and the United States and Asia planned [2].
Current status
The house is active. Its most recent dated fragrance, Desir Troublant, was released in 2023 [3], and it continues to be carried by European niche retailers and to maintain a presence on Instagram as @evodyparfums.
