Summary

Overview

Favora is a Finnish skincare line built for sensitive, allergy-prone skin and sold through pharmacies in Finland. The range is manufactured and distributed by Orion Pharma, the consumer-health arm of the Espoo-based company Orion Oyj [3]. Its guiding idea is deliberate simplicity: short, carefully chosen ingredient lists with nothing the brand considers unnecessary, summed up in the Finnish tagline Kaikki mitä ihosi tarvitsee ja vain se, mitä ihosi tarvitsee — "everything your skin needs and only what it needs."

The line remains in active distribution. Its products are carried across the major Finnish online pharmacies, and the catalogue has grown from roughly 13 items in 2014 to more than 35 today, suggesting continued development rather than a static legacy range.

History

Favora's exact founding year is not documented in available sources, but the line can be traced back at least to the early 2000s. In 2002 it appeared as one of the proprietary brands of Noiro, the cosmetics division of the Orion Group, named alongside Lumene, Herbina, Cutrin and others at the inauguration of a new cosmetics plant in the Kauklahti district of Espoo [4].

A turning point came the following year. In 2003 Orion sold Noiro to the private-equity firm CapMan for about 100 million euros, a transaction that transferred Lumene, Herbina, Nanoel, Cutrin and Farmos to the new owner [5]. Favora was not among the brands listed in that sale. Current product pages identify Orion Pharma as Favora's manufacturer and distributor [3], indicating that the line was kept by Orion as a pharmacy-focused skincare brand while the mainstream cosmetics business was divested. The earliest editorial coverage found is a January 2014 review on the Finnish beauty blog Karkkipäivä, which assessed 13 products and described the range as competent, no-frills basic skincare [10].

Ownership

Favora belongs to Orion Pharma, part of Orion Oyj, headquartered in Espoo, Finland [3]. The parent is primarily a pharmaceutical company, and Favora sits within its consumer health and well-being activities rather than its core drug portfolio; the line does not appear in Orion's published corporate history.

The brand's lineage is recorded in two stages. In 2002 it was documented as a Noiro brand under the Orion Group [4]; after the 2003 divestment of Noiro to CapMan — which CapMan later renamed Lumene Oy — Favora was retained by Orion and is identified on present-day product pages as an Orion Pharma line [3][5]. The Noiro and Lumene names therefore describe an earlier corporate chapter rather than the brand's current ownership.

Philosophy and positioning

Favora positions itself as gentle, uncomplicated skincare aimed at people with sensitive skin and at those who react to allergens or fragrance. According to the brand, product development specifically takes into account allergic, fragrance-sensitive and asthmatic users as well as sensitive skin generally. The stated mission is to "cleanse, treat and moisturize gently," and the company frames its formulating approach as ingredient minimalism — including only what it regards as necessary.

The line is distributed exclusively through Finnish self-care pharmacies (apteekki), placing it in the drugstore tier of the market rather than selective or luxury retail. It has no apparent independent web or social-media presence beyond pharmacy retailer pages.

Products and ingredients

The catalogue spans cleansing, soothing and moisturizing, firming products for mature skin, and complementary items such as SPF day creams, BB cream, eye care and hand and lip care. Across the range, the brand highlights actives including ceramides, niacinamide, panthenol, betaine, gluconolactone and phytosphingosine, and notes the use of prebiotics and postbiotics intended to support the skin's microbiome balance.

A representative product is the Favora Rauhoittava kosteusvoide (soothing moisturizer), which the company says provides moisturization for 24 hours based on clinical testing, protects sensitive skin and strengthens the skin barrier. Many products are supplied in airless pump packaging, which the brand says keeps out contaminants after opening and reduces — or removes — the need for preservatives.

Favora describes its products as fragrance-free, colorant-free, paraben-free, mineral-oil-free and vegan, and states that they are not tested on animals and comply with EU cosmetics rules. The brand also says product design and manufacturing take place in Finland, and that its packaging is recyclable.

Certification and testing

A central part of Favora's positioning is the Allergy Label of the Finnish Allergy, Skin and Asthma Federation (Allergia-, Iho- ja Astmaliitto), a hypoallergenic mark the brand says many of its products carry; the company describes the range as developed in collaboration with that organization. Favora also states that its products are user-tested before launch.

Current status

Favora is active as of 2026. It is distributed exclusively through Finnish pharmacies, with no international presence identified, and its current range is carried by several Finnish online pharmacy portals. The expansion of the catalogue over the past decade points to an actively maintained, single-market brand rather than a dormant one.
