Summary

Overview

Fine Accoutrements, which trades simply as Fine, is a United States men's wet-shaving and grooming company based in Fairport, New York. It makes aftershaves, colognes, shaving soaps and shaving hardware, and is best known for aftershave splashes built on what the company calls a four-ingredient formula. The business operates under the corporate name Fine Grooming Brands, Inc. [1] and remains active, with the brand site selling directly and running a Father's Day promotion in June 2026 [2].

The brand's origins are recorded inconsistently. Independent third-party coverage and the founder's own LinkedIn profile place its founding in 2005 [6][7], while the current company website states the brand was "established in 2013" [1]. The brand presents 2013 as the year it "ignited the craft aftershave revolution," language that points to a relaunch or growth milestone rather than the original start date.

Origin and founders

According to a Jakarta Globe profile, the company was started in early 2005 by Todd Cerami, who read an article on the benefits of traditional wet shaving and set out to make a less expensive, more effective alternative to the products then available [6]. Cerami, who goes by "Mr. Fine," came from a career in finance rather than chemistry; he is named as the founder by third-party retailers and editorial coverage and on his LinkedIn profile [7]. The current brand site does not name him, describing the founder only as "an investment advisor" who discovered traditional wet shaving and created the Fine Classic After Shave after finding existing products unsatisfactory [1].

By his own account, Cerami began making aftershaves in his basement, experimenting with ratios of perfumer's alcohol, distilled water, fragrance oils and menthol, and the line spread largely by word of mouth before manufacturing moved to a dedicated facility.

Products and formulation

Fine's catalogue centres on aftershave splashes, with related colognes (eau de toilette), triple-milled shaving soaps and hardware such as safety razors, brushes, bowls and blade banks. The company's signature claim is its "four ingredient formula," with most aftershaves made from only alcohol, water, fragrance and menthol [4]; it describes this minimalism as performance-led, saying that "testing drives every ingredient decision" and that an ingredient is included only if it noticeably improves the product [1].

Many of the aftershaves are framed as recreations of well-known designer and classic men's fragrances. American Blend draws on Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche Pour Homme, Platinum on Creed Aventus, and L'Orange Noir on Terre d'Hermès, among others. An outlier in the range is the Snake Bite Aftershaving Tonic, a fragrance-free splash marketed for its concentrated menthol intensity. The brand's stated tagline is "Nothing Beats a Fine Shave."

On formulation ethics, the company says its products contain no artificial colours, parabens or phthalates and are not tested on animals [3].

Manufacturing

Fine states that all of its products are "proudly made in the USA, in Fairport, New York" [3]. Its homepage, however, describes the shaving soaps as "Italian-made" [2], suggesting the triple-milled soaps are produced in or sourced from Italy while the aftershaves and colognes are made at the Fairport facility. The company's about page cites ISO 22716 manufacturing standards for cosmetics.

Distribution and export

The brand ships directly to customers in the United States and Canada. Beyond direct sales, it exports internationally through distributors: a 2018 press release announced Fine Accoutrements as a US manufacturer exporting to South Korea via the distributor Alphabet, with the founder noting the shift from basement production to "a specialized personal care manufacturing facility" supplying "countries around the world" [5]. This distributor-led export model is consistent with the brand's presence on Nordic retail listings.

Fine Accoutrements is active. Its website is live and selling, most recently with a Father's Day promotion running in June 2026 [2]. The company has consolidated its web presence onto the domain tryfine.com, to which its former fineaccoutrements.com address now redirects.
