Summary

Overview

Flora-Natur is a German line of body and hair care products: shampoos, shower gels, bath products and skin oils. It is the house brand of a pharmacy in Sonnefeld, a small town in Bavaria, and was created by the pharmacist Horst Auernhammer. The brand presents itself with the line "Das Original seit 1985" ("the original since 1985") [1], although the same company also dates the line's development to 1955.

The brand is active and remains closely tied to its family pharmacy. Its products are sold through that pharmacy business and through online pharmacies, and the line is run today by the founder's son.

Origin & founders

Horst Auernhammer was a pharmacist who had previously worked for the hair-care company Wella. According to the company, those years gave him long experience of working with plant substances, and he used that knowledge to build a natural care line made up of concentrates for skin and hair [2].

His stated aim is quoted on the brand's own page. Loosely translated, he wanted people to take the time to celebrate the shower and the bath, and to give skin and hair the care they deserve. The company calls him a pharmacist "with body and soul". The tagline that has stayed with the line is "Natur für Haut und Haar", or "nature for skin and hair".

History & milestones

The pharmacy that makes and sells Flora-Natur is much older than the brand itself. The Kloster-Apotheke in Sonnefeld dates its own history to 1837 [4]. That date belongs to the pharmacy, not to the care line.

The founding year of Flora-Natur itself is given in two ways, and both come from the company. Its homepage and brand page describe the line as "the original since 1985" [1]. The same brand page also says that Horst Auernhammer developed the natural care line "since 1955" [2]. No outside source settles the difference, and the company does not explain how the two dates relate. This article follows the 1985 date, which the brand uses as its headline claim.

The line later passed to the next generation. Dr. med. Jürgen Christian Auernhammer, the founder's son, is described by the company as a third-generation pharmacist, and he continues the Flora-Natur series [2].

Ownership

Flora-Natur is not a stand-alone company. It is a house brand of VITALE KLOSTER APOTHEKE e.K., a pharmacy business at Marktplatz 14 in Sonnefeld, owned by Dr. Jürgen Christian Auernhammer [5]. The pharmacy says the products of its house brand are available in all VITALE pharmacies [2].

German online pharmacies list the manufacturer under a slightly different name, "Alte Kloster-Apotheke H.Auernhammer", at the same Sonnefeld address [8].

Flora-Natur sits alongside other house lines from the same pharmacy. These include a VITALE care series and a cosmetics range sold under the name VITALE Dr. med. Auernhammer Kosmetik [3].

Philosophy & positioning

The company frames Flora-Natur as plant-based care with a pharmacy background. It states that all of its products have been made from plant extracts, "then as now". It also stresses two production choices. According to the pharmacy, every Flora-Natur product is a 100 % concentrate with no added water, which it presents as a way to make the products last longer in use. It further says the plant extracts are especially pure and meet pharmacopoeia quality, meaning the official quality standard used for medicines in pharmacies [3].

These are the company's own descriptions. No third-party certifications are documented for the line.

Products

The range covers everyday body and hair care rather than make-up or facial treatments. The pharmacy describes it in three groups: shampoos, shower gels and skin oils. Bath products also form part of the line.

The skin oils carry the most specific positioning. The brand markets them for dry to very dry skin, for people with diabetes, and for use during pregnancy. These are care claims made by the company, not clinical claims backed by published studies.

Current status

Flora-Natur is an active brand. In October 2026 it was still promoted on the pharmacy's homepage and on a dedicated page, and at least one of its skin oils was listed as in stock at a German online pharmacy [6]. Some individual items were shown as unavailable at other online pharmacies at the same time [7].

Its distribution is small and regional. The line is sold mainly through the family's own pharmacies and through online pharmacies, and it has no documented coverage in the international beauty press.
