Summary

Overview

Frudia is a South Korean skincare brand built around fruit-derived ingredients. It is owned and operated by Welcos Co., Ltd., whose corporate name appears on Frudia's own site as the legal entity behind the label [1]. The company is based in South Korea, with a registered corporate address in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do, and an office in Seoul. Its products are marketed under the tagline "Derived from Fruit," and the brand groups its formulas into single-fruit lines such as blueberry, green grape, citrus and pomegranate.

The name itself joins "fruit" with the Greek "dia," which the company explains as the idea of nurturing skin by imitating nature [8]. Frudia remains active: its official site operates in Korean, English and Chinese, the @frudia.official social accounts have carried posts through 2024–2025, and the range continues to expand with recent launches such as a blueberry sunscreen and a lip-and-cheek product [7].

Philosophy & positioning

Frudia centres its identity on fruit. According to the company, the brand "mimics nature to nurture the skin," delivering the nutrients of vitamin-rich fruits to transform the complexion and promote what it calls healthy radiance. A retailer brand page frames the line as the outcome of three decades of fruit-focused research, describing Frudia as "the result of 30 years of dedicated research" looking for better ways to treat skin [8]. The positioning sits at the intersection of two trends the brand leans into openly — Korean beauty and clean beauty — and its own marketing repeats the hashtags vegan, K-beauty, clean beauty and cruelty-free.

Commercially, Frudia is a mass-market skincare line rather than a prestige one. At its 2017 U.S. launch, product prices ran from roughly two dollars for sheet masks to about twenty-two dollars for serums [11], placing it in the drugstore tier. Distribution is multi-channel, spanning the brand's own store, international retailers and, in the United States, the pharmacy chain CVS.

Products & innovation

Frudia organises its catalogue by fruit, with each collection built around a single hero ingredient. Among its recurring lines are Blueberry (hydrating), Green Grape (pore control), Citrus (brightening, using Jeju tangerines) and Pomegranate (nutri-moisturising), alongside avocado and mango formulas. Signature items include the Blueberry Hydrating Cream, the Green Grape Pore Control Cream, the Pomegranate Nutri-Moisturizing Cream and a Citrus Brightening Vitamin C Ampoule. The four collections that launched in the United States each combined a cream, toner, serum and sheet mask, and the brand outlined plans to extend into fruit-based lip balms and cleansing products later that year [11].

A defining claim is the high concentration of fruit in the formulas. In its four launch collections, the brand stated fruit content ranging from 46 to 89 percent depending on the line — for example 55 to 88 percent blueberry in the hydrating range and 60 to 89 percent green grape in the pore-control range [11].

The brand attributes these formulas to a proprietary extraction technology it calls R VITA W. The method is described as a low-temperature process designed to draw nutrients from fruit seeds, juices and peels while limiting nutrient loss [10]. Sources differ on how long the process takes. A retailer brand-history account and several other descriptions cite a roughly 48-hour low-temperature extraction [8], while the trade publication WWD, reporting on the U.S. launch, described a 100 percent low-extraction method running 72 hours through low-temperature, low-speed, high-pressure and microbacterial filtration steps [11]. The brand's own technology page is image-rendered, so no single authoritative figure was confirmed from its site; the difference may reflect a refinement of the process over time.

Frudia also presents itself as a clean-beauty line. The products are described as vegan and not tested on animals, and as formulated without parabens, sulfates or artificial fragrances [12]. One retailer states that all of the brand's products are made entirely in South Korea [10].

Recognition & press

Frudia drew international trade coverage around its move into the United States. In May 2017, WWD profiled the brand under the headline "Frudia Ripe for Growth," reporting its debut through CVS, CVS.com and peachandlily.com, and noting that the K-beauty buyer Alicia Yoon had selected Frudia among about 100 items for CVS's curated "K-Beauty HQ" assortment, which was rolling out to 2,100 stores [11]. The same report noted that initial sales were strong, with masks selling out in several locations. Frudia's own press archive lists features in European beauty titles across 2019 and 2020, including Russian and Polish editions of titles such as Elle and Cosmopolitan [6].
