Overview
hoss INTROPIA is a Spanish women's fashion label founded in Madrid in 1994 [7] that has also, since 2021, sold a line of women's eau de parfum. After its original operating company went through insolvency proceedings, the Hoss, Intropia and Hoss Intropia brands were acquired in 2019 by Tendam, the Spanish fashion group behind Cortefiel, Pedro del Hierro, Springfield and Women'secret [6]. The brand is therefore an acquired label: it still trades under its own name, but as one brand within a larger group rather than as an independent company.
Under Tendam the label was relaunched in early 2021 with a spring/summer clothing collection. Its first perfume, Gadea, followed at the end of that year, and the fragrance line has since grown to several scents, most recently a trio presented in 2026 under the title The Mediterranean Fragrances.
Origin & founders
The business began in Madrid in 1994 under a different name, Homeless. According to the Spanish trade publication FashionUnited, it adopted the name Hoss Intropia when it began expanding outside Spain [7]. The double name that later became familiar was, in other words, tied to the company's growth abroad rather than to its first years at home.
Accounts of who founded it differ. Spanish trade press names Constan Hernández as the founder, reporting in 2017 that he would stay on as the company's president when a new managing director took over day-to-day leadership [7]. A fashion-business database instead lists Paloma Vázquez de Castro as founder [14]. Most trade coverage follows the attribution to Hernández.
History & milestones
For much of its independent life the company positioned itself in the mid-to-upper segment of women's fashion. By 2017 it had shortened its corporate name to Intropia, and FashionUnited described its target customer as a working woman aged roughly 35 to 50. The same report gave the company's turnover for 2015 as 47.7 million euros, 3.8 percent lower than the year before. At that point the group was present in 15 countries with a network of about 30 points of sale, while its collections were also stocked by multi-brand stores in Spain and around 40 other countries. Its own retail footprint was largely domestic: of its 36 stores and corners, only three were outside Spain in 2016. The 2017 leadership change was presented as part of a push to strengthen international expansion.
That push did not prevent a financial collapse. The company entered insolvency proceedings (a court-supervised creditors' process, known in Spain as a concurso de acreedores), but the timing is reported differently. The Spanish fashion-business outlet Modaes places the filing in November 2018, with liquidation opened on 30 January 2019 [15]. FashionUnited's report on the eventual sale says instead that the company entered the process in early 2019 [6]. Both agree on the outcome. FashionUnited adds that a year passed without a buyer being found, leaving the business in a difficult position.
In late 2019 Tendam confirmed it had bought the Hoss, Intropia and Hoss Intropia brands for an undisclosed amount. Tendam's president and chief executive, Jaume Miquel, called the purchase a clear opportunity to complement the group's portfolio of brands. At the time of the announcement, Tendam said the relaunch would centre on online sales, with the first collection expected for autumn/winter 2020, sold through the brand's website and selected Cortefiel and Pedro del Hierro stores. The stated aim was to recover the essence of the original label while addressing a more alternative, relaxed customer and keeping a premium positioning.
The return arrived a season later than first planned. The brand came back with its spring/summer 2021 collection [5], sold through its own web store and in shop-in-shops inside 20 Cortefiel and Pedro del Hierro flagship stores in Spain, plus showroom spaces in six further stores. As of February 2021, international growth was planned to be gradual, through department stores and Tendam's franchise network. Alejandra Valero, who had been the label's design manager for eight years in its earlier period, returned to lead design, with the stated aim of ensuring respect for the essence of the brand.
Ownership
hoss INTROPIA has been owned by Tendam since 2019. The brand's own website lists it alongside the group's other labels: Pedro del Hierro, Women'secret, Cortefiel, Springfield and Fifty Outlet [1]. In its 2019 coverage of the acquisition, FashionUnited noted that the label sat in a similar market segment to Pedro del Hierro, the group's most exclusive brand, but was aimed at a more alternative and casual woman.
The closeness to the rest of the group is visible in how the brand is sold: much of its physical presence takes the form of shop-in-shops inside Cortefiel stores, and its first perfume was launched through Cortefiel as well.
Philosophy & positioning
Tendam describes the label as "free-spirited, sophisticated, distinctive, with a Mediterranean flavour", meant for creative women with their own personal style rather than followers of passing fads. The group's brand page puts the emphasis on design and quality, and singles out hand-crafted embroidered garments for both everyday wear and special occasions.
At the 2021 relaunch, Marie Castellvi-Dépée, chief executive of Cortefiel and Pedro del Hierro, described the label as a classic of women's fashion in Spain and abroad, with a "romantic-sophisticated bohemian feel" that set it apart from trends. The current website organises its clothing around dresses, blouses, jackets and accessories, with edits for daily wear, work and guests at special events. The Mediterranean theme in the brand's description carries over directly into its fragrances.
Products & innovation
Clothing and accessories remain the brand's core business, and its own website does not present fragrance as a separate category. Its presence in beauty comes from a line of women's eau de parfum.
The first of these, Gadea, was presented in December 2021 by the Spanish lifestyle site Trendencias as the brand's first perfume [4]. The publication described it as a fresh scent with floral and citrus touches. Its opening combines fig, pear and hesperides (a perfumery term for citrus notes), its heart is built on tuberose, gardenia and jasmine, and its base pairs a marine note with moss and sandalwood. The packaging used a glass bottle with a cap made from wood sourced from sustainably managed Spanish forests, set inside a reusable decorative cylinder with a metal lid. At launch it was sold through Cortefiel and the brand's own website. The perfumer and the manufacturer were not named.
Further eau de parfum for women followed under the names Manuela, Casilda, Julieta, Vega and Mallorca, along with gift sets built around Gadea and Manuela.
In February 2026 the packaging trade publication NewsPackaging reported on a new trio called The Mediterranean Fragrances [8]. Each scent is tied to a small moment in a Mediterranean garden: Siesta in the Garden evokes a nap beside a fig tree, Under the Orange Tree a citrus-scented breakfast outdoors, and Rain & Flowers the damp, floral smell after a shower. The Meteorito design studio created a romantic, vintage look with fluted bottles, oval labels and gold closures topped with spherical stoppers. Labels and container linings use Fedrigoni's Freelife Merida White paper, which has a soft, cotton-like texture, and each canister carries small photographic scenes, with the brand's symbol embossed on the lid. The design was credited as made for Farlabo, whose exact role in the line was not specified. No company has been publicly identified as the licensee or manufacturer of the fragrances.
Beyond the Gadea packaging, no brand-wide sustainability commitments or third-party certifications are documented.
Current status
hoss INTROPIA is an acquired brand that remains commercially active under Tendam. In 2026 its website carried an autumn/winter 2026 collection, and the new fragrance packaging was covered by trade press in February of that year.
Figures for the brand's reach vary by source and date. Tendam's brand page states that it operates in 17 countries, with more than 20 standalone stores and 60 shop-in-shops inside Cortefiel stores in Spain, Portugal and Mexico [3]. Forbes España gave a smaller footprint, more than 40 points of sale in eight countries [16]; the figures appear to describe the brand at different stages of its relaunch. Before the insolvency, the company had said its collections reached more than 40 countries [6].
