Kremser

Kremser is an Austrian pharmacy brand made in the laboratory of the Wienertor-Apotheke, a public pharmacy in Krems an der Donau, Lower Austria [6]. It is a very small line: a single product, a fat-free cream based on aluminium acetate tartrate (known in German as "essigsaure Tonerde"), is sold under the name.

The brand has no website, history or founding date of its own. Its story is largely the story of the pharmacy that makes it, which opened in 1955 and has been run by three pharmacists since then. Kremser is active, and its one known product is distributed in Germany.

No founder or launch year has been published for the Kremser line itself. What is documented is its maker. The Wienertor-Apotheke opened on 1 June 1955, when the pharmacist Mag. pharm. Hackenberg set up shop in a listed 16th-century town house at Untere Landstraße 56 in Krems [1]. The house is gabled and protected as a historic monument, and the pharmacy stayed there until recently.

Kurt Baldrian took over the pharmacy in 1971. In September 2019, Andrea Schachhuber became its head [1]. The Austrian company register lists her as the pharmacy's general partner from 1 September 2019, with Hannelore Baldrian as limited partner [8].

The pharmacy has since left the old town house. It now operates from Ringstraße 12, near Krems railway station, and describes the move as the start of a new chapter for the business.

Kremser belongs to its maker rather than to a cosmetics group. The pharmacy trades as Wienertor Apotheke – Mag. pharm. Andrea Schachhuber KG, a limited partnership registered in Krems [8]. According to its legal notice, it is a public pharmacy under Austrian pharmacy law, and its licence holder is a member of the Austrian Chamber of Pharmacists [2].

Two different companies appear in connection with the brand, and the sources describe their roles differently:

- The label names "Laboratorium der Wienertor-Apotheke, Krems" as the producer [6]. - German retail listings name Hecht Pharma GmbH of Bremervörde, Germany, as "Anbieter/Hersteller" (provider/manufacturer) of the cream [3]. Hecht's name, address and the German product number also appear on a separate sticker on the end flap of the box [7].

The two accounts can be read together. The same listings mark Hecht's entry as "GB – Handelsware", meaning trading goods, and its details sit on an added distributor sticker rather than in the printed label text. This suggests that Hecht acts as the German importer and supplier, while the Krems pharmacy laboratory makes the product.

Kremser publishes no mission statement or brand values. The front of the box carries the line "Österreich. Qualitätsprodukt" ("Austria. Quality product"), which places the brand's Austrian origin at the centre of its packaging [4].

The maker's own outlook is better documented. The Wienertor-Apotheke calls itself a "Wohlfühl-Apotheke", a feel-good pharmacy. It says its focus is on time, listening and individual care rather than on turnover or speed [1]. It also prepares made-to-order medicines on site. According to the pharmacy, ointments, drops, syrups, tinctures, capsules and eye drops are produced in-house for individual patients. Kremser comes from this tradition of pharmacy-made preparations rather than from industrial cosmetics manufacturing.

The only product documented under the Kremser name is Essigsaure Tonerde Creme, a 50 ml tube. The packaging calls it a fat-free cream and a skin-care jelly cream for external use.

According to the label, it is a cooling gel for the skin, muscles and joints. It is meant to cool and soothe swollen or reddened areas after insect bites and too much sun [5]. The box warns against use on open wounds, in the eyes or on mucous membranes, and against use on babies and small children. It also advises using the tube within six months of opening.

No other Kremser products, patents or third-party certifications are documented.

Kremser is an active brand. Its maker continues to operate as a public pharmacy in Krems an der Donau from its new address on Ringstraße [1]. The pharmacy's website lists its services and opening hours but does not present the Kremser line or any other own-brand product. Outside Austria, the cream reaches German pharmacies through Hecht Pharma [3].
