Summary

Overview

Made in Lab is a Polish online perfumery that sells affordable eau de parfum, built around fragrances inspired by well-known designer scents alongside a smaller range of original compositions [1]. Rather than competing on packaging or marketing, the company sells its perfumes in plain, numbered bottles and frames the scent itself as the entire product. The brand is active: its perfumes are distributed through major Polish drugstore chains and resold by several Danish retailers as imports.

The catalogue spans women's, men's and unisex fragrances, all offered as eau de parfum rather than the lighter eau de toilette, in bottle sizes that have included 100 ml and 33 ml formats [5]. Beyond the inspired-by range, Made in Lab has expanded into named original lines, positioning itself in the 2020s wave of accessible "dupe" perfumery that offers designer-style scents at drugstore prices [7].

Origin

The people behind Made in Lab are not publicly disclosed; the brand site names no founders, and no company-registration details appear on its contact page. What the company does document is its rationale. According to its own "About" page, Made in Lab set out to strip perfume of what it calls the distractions that inflate price — elaborate bottles, invented product names, printed labels and celebrity-led advertising — so that customers pay for the fragrance rather than its presentation [2]. In its own words, where others "hide behind fancy bottles, names and labels, and celebrity ads," the company says it removed those elements from its own perfumes.

By October 2021 the brand was already being tested and reviewed on Polish beauty blogs, which recorded it on sale through drugstores such as Joka, with 100 ml bottles priced at 32 PLN at the time [8].

Philosophy and positioning

Made in Lab's central idea is that the scent should "speak for itself." The company packages all of its perfumes in identical, deliberately minimalist bottles and numbers them instead of giving them names, arguing that what other people notice is the fragrance, not the flacon [5]. It summarises the approach in a tagline, "Więcej zapachu, mniej marketingu" — "more fragrance, less marketing" [1].

That positioning is explicitly value-led. The brand highlights cost savings, fragrance quality and breadth of choice as its core selling points, and presents itself as a way to obtain designer-style scents without designer prices. Polish editorial coverage has echoed this framing: a review on Polki.pl described Made in Lab as a "strong Polish competitor," arguing that a domestic brand can hold its own against foreign producers by offering quality perfumes at reasonable prices [7].

Products

The range is organised into several lines. The numbered inspired-by perfumes form the core, each keyed to a recognisable designer fragrance — examples include Made in Lab 01, a woody men's scent described as inspired by Rabanne's 1 Million [10], and Made in Lab 10, presented as an alternative to Yves Saint Laurent's Black Opium [11]. Other numbered entries such as 11, 26 and 157 follow the same model [7].

Alongside these, the company produces original compositions rather than alternatives. The Treats line includes gourmand scents such as Vanilla Fudge, Praline Haze, Cherry Tarte and Milky Matcha [7]. A premium PRIVÉ line is marketed as more intense and longer-lasting, sold in 50 ml bottles, and the catalogue also extends to fragrance mists. All of the perfumes are sold at eau de parfum concentration [5].

Distribution

Made in Lab operates across several channels. It sells directly through its own website and is carried in mainstream Polish retail, including the drugstore chain Rossmann — which maintains a dedicated brand page for the PRIVÉ line — as well as Biedronka and Drogerie Polskie [6]. Outside Poland, the brand reaches customers chiefly through resale: several Danish retailers, among them BilligParfume.dk and Makeup.dk, list its perfumes as imports, although the company maintains no Danish-localised site of its own.

Current status

The brand is active. Its perfumes continued to appear on Rossmann's site through 2025, it received editorial coverage in Polish consumer media, and it maintained active e-commerce and social-media accounts on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook [6]. Its product lines have grown over time, adding the Treats and PRIVÉ ranges to the original numbered series.
