Multilind

Multilind is a German pharmacy skincare brand owned by STADA Arzneimittel AG and marketed by its German consumer-health company in Bad Vilbel. The brand grew out of a single product: Multilind Heilsalbe, a medicinal paste combining the antifungal agent nystatin with zinc oxide, used on sore and inflamed skin in the nappy area, in skin folds and on people who need nursing care. STADA said in 2023 that the paste had been on the market for more than 40 years [6].

Around that medicine, STADA has built what it calls a "derma umbrella brand": a family of cosmetic creams for babies, sensitive skin and dry skin that carry the Multilind name without being drugs themselves. The brand is active, sold mainly through pharmacies, and its owner lists Germany as its only market [7].

Little is publicly documented about how Multilind began. Its founding year and original owner are unknown, and STADA's own pages say nothing about the brand's early history. The only time marker is the company's 2023 statement that the healing paste had proved itself for "more than 40 years"; no exact launch date has been published.

The clearest documented turning point came in October 2023. On 1 October, STADA launched Multilind derma:care HYDRO, a five-product cosmetic series for dry and very dry skin, sold exclusively in pharmacies [6]. According to the press release announcing it, the formulation was developed as part of the range extension of Cetraben, a STADA medical skincare brand from the United Kingdom that the company describes as one of the best-known brands recommended by family doctors there.

The same launch brought a wider overhaul. The whole Multilind range received new packaging, and STADA introduced a new umbrella campaign built around what it called the "Multilind effect", using cheerful, upbeat imagery. The company also set up a new field sales team specialising in dermatology to present the products to pharmacy staff. STADA said the aim was for Multilind to be seen more strongly as an umbrella brand and as a skin expert.

Multilind belongs to STADA Arzneimittel AG, a pharmaceutical group headquartered in Bad Vilbel in the German state of Hesse [6]. In Germany the brand is marketed by STADA Consumer Health Deutschland GmbH, whose Bad Vilbel address appears on the brand's website and product pages [1]. STADA describes a three-pillar strategy of consumer healthcare products, generic medicines and specialty pharmaceuticals, and says it sells its products in around 120 countries.

Within STADA's consumer-health portfolio, Multilind sits alongside other dermatology and personal-care brands, including Ceridal, Dermalog, Locobase, Nizoexpert and Viscontour. No acquisition history for Multilind has been documented, and it is not known whether the brand was created by STADA or came to the group from an earlier owner.

The Multilind name is also used in Switzerland for a different product: an oral nystatin suspension supplied by Dermapharm AG of Hünenberg. In February 2025 that company recalled one batch of the suspension, in agreement with the Swiss regulator Swissmedic, because its nystatin content had fallen below specification after 27 months [9]. The recall concerned that Swiss product and supplier, not the STADA range described here.

STADA presents Multilind as a skin expert with "medical competence", a phrase it uses to link the cosmetic lines back to the licensed paste. The brand's tagline, "Multilind hilft der Haut", translates as "Multilind helps the skin". Its website describes the products as tried-and-tested care "for young and old", and its audience reflects that span: new parents dealing with nappy rash at one end, older and care-dependent adults at the other.

The website works partly as a health-information service. Alongside the product pages it carries explanatory articles on the structure of the skin and on conditions such as eczema, nappy dermatitis, pressure sores, fungal infections, itching and dry skin. The company says this content goes through a five-step editorial process: research using official guidelines and scientific studies, writing, a legal review under Germany's law on the advertising of medicines, a medical and scientific review, and regular updates [5]. Medical review is led by a licensed pharmacist on STADA's medical affairs team. The site states that artificial intelligence may help with research and structuring, but that medical statements are published only after expert review.

The brand's anchor is Multilind Heilsalbe mit Nystatin, an over-the-counter medicinal product rather than a cosmetic. Each gram of the paste contains 100,000 international units of nystatin and 200 mg of zinc oxide [2]. Nystatin is an antifungal agent used against yeast infections of the skin, notably those caused by Candida albicans. The paste is indicated for inflammation of the skin and mucous membranes, chafing caused by friction, and inflamed skin folds, including nappy dermatitis. STADA says the paste relieves itching and calms inflammation, and that a special base lets it be applied gently and without pain. It contains a citrus-rose fragrance oil.

The second product shown on the brand's website is Multilind derma:care PROTECT, a cosmetic barrier cream for the nappy area. Its formula pairs zinc oxide with oat oil, and it is described as suitable for adult skin as well. The company says the cream is free of colourants, fragrances, preservatives, allergens and PEG emulsifiers [1].

The derma:care HYDRO series launched in 2023 comprises a moisturising lotion, a moisturising shower gel, an SOS moisturising cream, an intensive moisturising cream and an intensive repair cream. STADA says the products contain no paraffins (including mineral oil) or silicones, use a plant-based alternative to beeswax and are suitable for vegans; no vegan certification is named. According to the company, the series was clinically tested in 2023 on 30 people with dry and very dry skin and addresses five common signs of dryness, with results for the SOS cream visible after five days [6].

STADA's global product page lists a further cosmetic, Multilind MicroSilver, intended for the care of skin prone to atopic dermatitis [7].

Accounts of the current range differ. The brand's German website shows only two products, the Heilsalbe and derma:care PROTECT [1]. STADA's global product page lists the Heilsalbe, MicroSilver and Derma Care Protect, while the October 2023 press release adds the five-product HYDRO series. Neither MicroSilver nor HYDRO appears in the current navigation of the German site, and no source states whether they have been discontinued or are simply not featured there.

In a test of 25 nappy-area barrier creams published in early 2021, the German consumer magazine Öko-Test gave Multilind Care an overall grade of "very good". The trade publication APOTHEKE ADHOC, reporting the result, noted that it was one of only two pharmacy products in a test that included many drugstore products, and that the cream was described as free of questionable ingredients [8].

STADA has also cited a 2023 customer-satisfaction ranking by the SZ-Institut, published as an advertorial with the Süddeutsche Zeitung, as showing the highest customer satisfaction for the Heilsalbe among new parents and seniors. That ranking is quoted by the company and has not been independently confirmed.

Multilind is an active brand. Its German website is maintained, with a 2025 copyright notice from STADA and mandatory product information dated May 2024. The most recent dated launch is the derma:care HYDRO series of October 2023. STADA lists Germany as the brand's only international market, and the brand's products are distributed mainly through pharmacies.
