Summary

Overview

Noelie (styled NOELIE) is a German skin and hair care brand based in Wiesbaden, Hesse. It was created by Bahar Krahn, a master hairdresser and cosmetician who first ran a natural beauty institute in the city and later turned the products she developed there into a brand of her own. Noelie makes certified organic skincare, haircare and a plant-based hair colour, all made in Germany, and positions itself in the premium segment of natural cosmetics.

The brand's identity rests on two ideas it repeats often: that its formulas replace water with fresh plant juices, and that a delivery system it calls Cell Membrane Technology carries active ingredients deeper into the skin. The company describes its name as meaning "day of birth", a reference to a fresh start for skin and hair.

Origin & founders

The company's own pages name Bahar Krahn as the founder of Noelie [2]. A 2020 profile on the German beauty blog just me & beauty instead introduced it as the brand "of Bahar and Bastian Krahn" and called it a family project [11]. The brand's current story mentions only Bahar Krahn.

Krahn's background spans several trades. She qualified as a master hairdresser and master cosmetician, worked as a make-up artist, and trained as a pharmaceutical-technical assistant, later going on to study pharmacy. A 2022 article on the lifestyle blog immerschick.de adds that she was born in Afghanistan and grew up with a Sunday beauty ritual in which her mother used natural ingredients; the same article notes that Krahn's daughter also bears the name Noelie [12].

According to Krahn, the push towards natural hair colour came during her pharmacy-assistant training. She has said that a professor's remark about toxin residues found in tissue samples, which she linked to synthetic colour pigments from hair dye, shocked her into looking for an alternative, not least for her own mother. In a later interview published by the company she goes further and describes a raised cancer risk from regular hair dyeing as proven. That view is her own and is presented by the brand as part of its founding story.

In 2012 Krahn opened Be Organic, a beauty institute and natural hairdresser in Wiesbaden that specialises in plant-based hair colours. The brand says she first used third-party natural cosmetics there but felt they did not deliver the results she wanted, and so began developing her own formulas, testing them on the institute's clients. The company puts the number of client treatments behind the products at around 16,000.

Accounts of how long this took differ. The brand says the range was developed over roughly ten years [3], while the 2022 immerschick.de article gives a development period of seven years [12].

History & milestones

Before Noelie existed as a brand, Krahn's work at Be Organic drew regional recognition. She received the Wiesbaden founders' prize (Wiesbadener Gründerpreis) in 2014 and the Hesse state founders' prize (Hessischer Gründerpreis) in 2015. In 2020 the institute itself received a Red Spa Award, which the company says placed it among the top three European spas in the "Greenkonzept" category.

By April 2020, just me & beauty was describing Noelie as a young German premium brand "from Hesse", with facial, body and hair care in its range. Part of the proceeds from sales at that time went, according to the profile, to a reforestation project in Panama that turns fallow land into mixed woodland.

By 2022 the range had settled into three lines: skincare, haircare and the Healing Herbs Hair Color. That year the brand acted as an ambassador for LebensHeldin e.V., a German breast-cancer charity, donating a fixed sum for each pack of hair colour sold. Body care no longer appears among the brand's current product lines, which cover skincare, haircare, plant hair colour and accessories.

Ownership

Noelie is operated by NOELIE Deutschland Distribution GmbH & Co. KG, a limited partnership registered in Wiesbaden, with Bahar Krahn as managing director [9]. No parent group or outside investor has been documented, and there is no record of the brand being acquired.

Philosophy & positioning

Noelie frames its approach around what it calls the "One Health" principle, the idea that people, nature and the environment form an inseparable whole. Krahn's stated mission is to develop holistic, sustainable and effective cosmetics for natural beauty, well-being and, above all, women's health. The brand sums up its values as quality, purity and efficacy, and uses the tagline "True change begins with cellular health".

In an interview, Krahn said she founded the brand because she felt natural cosmetics lacked a "100% promise": products that were pure, effective and certified at once. The company describes itself as the first certified organic active-ingredient cosmetics brand in the premium sector, a claim it makes on its own behalf.

A defining feature of the formulas, as the company describes them, is that they contain no added water. In its place, Noelie says it uses fresh organic plant juices and hydrosols, the fragrant water left after plant material is steam-distilled, taken from the first pressing.

The brand lists a long set of ingredients it avoids. These include silicones, propyl and butyl parabens, sulfates such as SLS, SLES and ALS, phthalates, harsh surfactants, paraffins, mineral oils, petroleum derivatives, heavy metals, polyethylene glycols (PEGs), microplastics, genetically modified ingredients and synthetic fragrances and dyes. The company also states that its products are not tested on animals anywhere in the world.

Noelie describes its formulations as vegan. However, the active ingredients it lists include fermented honey from black bees and Yucatán honey, so the vegan description does not appear to cover every product [6].

Products & innovation

The skincare line centres on serums, fluids and treatment products for the face. Among the products the brand features most prominently are the Antioxidant Multi-Active Day Fluid, which it markets as a multi-purpose firming and moisturising fluid, and the Hydrating Skin Repair Serum, aimed at hydration and the look of wrinkles. On the hair side, the Grow & Shine Scalp Treatment Essence and the Scalp Stimulating & Purifying Shampoo target hair loss and scalp complaints. The Healing Herbs Hair Color, which the brand also calls NOELIE Organic Hair Color, is a plant-based dye and links back to Krahn's work as a specialist in herbal hair colours.

Noelie names a range of plant-derived actives as its key ingredients. They include Rose of Jericho, moth bean extract (used as a plant alternative to retinol), bakuchiol, acacia collagen, ectoin, tremella mushroom, turmeric stem-cell extract and what it calls six-chain hyaluronic acid. The company says this natural form of hyaluronic acid is up to 70% more effective than conventional synthetic versions. The 2020 profile also mentioned superfoods such as goji, açaí, aronia and moringa, along with paracress extract and edelweiss stem cells.

The technical core of the range is what Noelie calls Cell Membrane Technology, with a "Cell Boost Effect". The company describes it as patented, though it does not name a patent number or holder [5]. The system is built on liposomes, tiny fat-based capsules made from phosphatidylcholine and oleosomes that are meant to carry ingredients into deeper skin layers and release them slowly. The brand states that this depot effect makes its actives up to 15 times more effective. The stated purity of the phosphatidylcholine varies between the company's pages: the science page gives 97%, while the English "about us" page gives 90% [3].

According to Noelie, the effectiveness and skin tolerance of its products were confirmed in studies at the dermatological institute of the University Hospital in Mainz [6]. It also says a lifting ingredient in the range made skin up to 3.5 times firmer in testing. These figures are the company's own.

Certification is central to how the brand presents itself. According to immerschick.de, the skincare and haircare lines are certified to the COSMOS ORGANIC standard, while the Healing Herbs Hair Color carries COSMOS NATURAL certification [12]. COSMOS is an international certification standard for organic and natural cosmetics. The company adds that its raw materials are checked each year by BDIH.

Sustainability

Packaging is the brand's main sustainability theme. Noelie says its skincare and haircare bottles are made largely from sugar cane, but the share differs between its pages: its German sustainability page gives over 97% [8], while the English "about us" page gives more than 95% [3]. Some products come in frosted glass, the hair colour is packed in a UV-protected pot to stop the herbs from oxidising, and labels on the hair-colour packs are printed on stone paper. Shipping cartons are recyclable. In 2023 Krahn stated an aim for the business to become climate-positive.

Recognition

The best-documented awards relate to Krahn and her institute rather than to Noelie products. These are the two founders' prizes of 2014 and 2015 and the 2020 Red Spa Award for Be Organic. The company also cites a Hessian innovation prize (Hessischer Innovationspreis) for its "Green Concept", without giving a year.

Beyond these, Noelie says it has collected more than 20 awards and over 200 mentions in magazines such as Vogue, Elle and Harper's Bazaar, as well as television appearances. Coverage outside the company's own channels includes the 2020 just me & beauty profile, the 2022 immerschick.de article, which the blog labelled as advertising based on PR samples, and a 2023 article by the retailer Parfümerie Brückner on the brand's origins.

09 /

Current status

Noelie is active. Its online shop, available in German, English and French, serves customers across Europe, and the company also takes business-to-business enquiries. The brand's knowledge blog has been updated regularly through 2026, most recently on 27 August 2026 with a post on rosacea and couperose [14]. The company says it has more than 10,000 customers.
