Summary

Overview

OneBlade designs and sells single-edge safety razors, replacement blades and related wet-shaving equipment, sold directly to customers online and through retailer, barber and corporate-gifting programs. Its best-known product is the Genesis, a heavyweight pivoting-head safety razor that the company positions at the premium end of the wet-shaving market and describes as "the world's original luxury safety razor" [2].

The brand traces its origins to a shave its founder had at an Italian barbershop and a later effort to reproduce that experience at home. Company records place its registration in early 2013 [5], while the finished Genesis razor was presented in 2015 after an extended development program. OneBlade remains active, with a current product line sold under its owner, Meadowdale Holdings, LLC [6].

Origin & founders

According to the company, the idea began when Porter Stansberry, described as OneBlade's founder, had what he considered a near-perfect straight-razor shave while travelling in Italy — the brand's own account places the barbershop in Rimini, while a later interview with the company's chief executive locates it in neighbouring San Marino [2][5]. Disappointed by ordinary home shaving afterward, Stansberry enlisted an industrial-design firm to build a razor that could bring that barbershop shave home.

The company's chief executive, Tod Barrett, has said he was recruited in early 2013 through a corporate recruiter, at a point when OneBlade had been registered but had no active employees and existed only as a concept [5]. Editorial and business sources credit both Stansberry and Barrett as co-founders. The design effort ran through more than 1,000 prototypes and, by the company's account, over a million dollars in testing before the Genesis was completed and presented to Stansberry in 2015 [2].

Ownership

OneBlade is owned by Meadowdale Holdings, LLC, which lists the brand among its companies alongside Porter & Co., Meadowdale Capital and The Meadowdale Fellowship [6]. Because Stansberry is also behind Porter & Co., the holding company reads as the founder's own portfolio group rather than an outside acquirer; the parent's materials present OneBlade as one of its companies without describing a separate purchase.

Philosophy & positioning

The company frames its work around recreating a professional barbershop shave for daily use, and says its team was told to set cost aside and concentrate on making the best razor it could. OneBlade summarises its aim as making "every morning shave an experience" and describes the Genesis as designed "without compromise," valuing performance above other considerations [2]. In the chief executive's telling, the intended customer is a confident enthusiast who prioritises shave quality over price. That positioning places the products in a luxury tier well above mass-market cartridge systems.

Products & innovation

Beyond the Genesis, OneBlade's line has grown to include the Element, a lighter safety razor, and the Dawn, which the company describes as its first razor made specifically for women [2]. The range also covers the LTHR hot-lather machine, replacement blades, brushes, stands and skincare accessories.

The razors are built around what the company calls a patented Active Floating Blade System: a pivoting head and a slightly floating blade said to adapt to the contours and texture of the skin for a closer but gentler pass [2]. OneBlade sells its custom HiCarbon SE blade, made from 6Cr13 stainless steel with a chromium and Teflon finish, and a milder "Gentle Ride" edge that the company states is 28% less steep than the Feather FHS-10 [2]; the Japanese-made Feather FHS-10, a surgical-precision blade, is also offered as an option. The company says its custom blades are honed to about 0.23 mm. By the company's own figures, more than 100,000 razors and over five million blades have been sold [2]. The brand backs its products with a 60-day return policy and a lifetime "Forever Warranty," and says its razors are made to eliminate the cuts, nicks and ingrown hairs associated with ordinary shaving.

Recognition

OneBlade maintains a curated "proof" page collecting press and reviewer quotes, so most of the coverage it highlights is brand-selected. Among the outlets quoted there, Business Insider's Dennis Green wrote that nothing he had used had cut hair as quickly or cleanly as the OneBlade [4], while Fast Company and Cool Material offered similarly favourable assessments. The niche wet-shaving publication Sharpologist, which covers the category independently, published a full interview with Barrett about the brand's founding and philosophy as well as a positive hands-on review [5]. The company's homepage additionally lists outlets such as TechCrunch, The New York Times, GQ, Esquire and Highsnobiety under a "Featured in" banner, a claim the brand presents itself.
