Overview
Raz Skincare is a Danish skincare company based in central Copenhagen, at Amagertorv 27. It was founded by Rasmus Bjørn Steen-Gørup, who trades under the nickname "Raz", and it builds its range around Nordic plants and herbs combined with modern skincare ingredients. The underlying company, Raz Skincare ApS, was registered on 31 January 2014 [13], though the founder describes more than two decades of prior work with the healing and cosmetic properties of natural ingredients, and the brand traces earlier roots to a business once trading as RAZSpa.
The company remains active. It runs an online shop that serves customers across some 40 countries with a primary focus on Scandinavia, and its products are also carried by Danish pharmacies such as Med24 and Apopro. Public financial records add a note of caution: Raz Skincare ApS reported a loss of about 3.7 million DKK for 2024 alongside negative equity, which points to financial pressure even as trading continues [13].
Origin & founders
The brand centres on its founder, Rasmus Bjørn Steen-Gørup, who is generally known simply as Raz. According to the company, he spent more than twenty years studying and developing beauty products drawn from Nordic plants and herbs before the current brand took its present shape [11].
One point of record differs across sources. The founder's name appears as Rasmus Bjørn Steen-Gørup on the brand's own site, on the retailer Med24, and in the Danish business registry (CVR 35653074) [13]. The pharmacy retailer Apopro instead lists him as "Rasmus Bjørn Andersen" [12]; this conflicts with every other source and appears to be an error on the retailer's page.
Raz Skincare presents itself as a smaller, founder-led operation. Beyond the webshop, the company offers personal skin-analysis consultations, both in person in Copenhagen and online, and the founder gives public lectures and educational talks on skin conditions and ingredients.
Ownership
Raz Skincare ApS is owned by a holding company, RAZ HOLDING ApS [13]. The business registry classifies the company under the manufacture of perfume, shampoo, toothpaste and similar products, and records a small headcount of around six employees.
Philosophy & positioning
The company frames its approach around what it calls "nature's own chemistry", leaning on plants and herbs with a long record of traditional use while pairing them with contemporary formulation. Its guiding line, repeated across the brand's pages, is that "if it has worked for 200 years, it probably still works", tempered by a second maxim that "if you can do better, you must do better" [8].
Sourcing sits at the centre of that positioning. Raz says it buys Nordic, Danish and local materials wherever possible, spanning ingredients, packaging and boxes, and it describes its formulas as highly concentrated. The brand markets itself at the upper end of the price range and pairs the products with a tiered customer loyalty programme.
Products & innovation
The range spans facial skincare, body and hair or scalp care, with a strong emphasis on problem-specific products for concerns such as acne, eczema, rosacea, psoriasis and keratosis pilaris. Recurring items include a hyaluronic acid serum, a vitamin C serum, a high-strength retinoid, and a healing salve marketed as Repair. Formulations draw on familiar actives — hyaluronic acid, retinol, niacinamide and vitamin C — alongside Nordic botanicals such as birch and extracts of cranberry, cloudberry and lingonberry.
The company does not claim any proprietary or exclusive ingredient technology; its ingredient library functions as general educational reference rather than a showcase of patented formulas. One of its products, Anti Irritation, is noted as being recommended by the Danish Psoriasis Association (Psoriasis Foreningen) [11].
Sustainability
Raz Skincare links its sourcing choices to a wider social and environmental stance. Manufacturing takes place in Denmark, and according to Med24 the founder purchased a mill in Marrakesh in 2008 to supply a women's cooperative that processes clay for the brand's cleansing mask, framed as a Fair Trade arrangement [11]. The company also cites product donations to the Danish charities Mødrehjælpen and Røde Kors. Retail listings note certifications including the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and Allergy Certified [12].
Recognition
In 2023, the Danish Beauty Award named Rasmus Bjørn Steen-Gørup its "Årets Ildsjæl" (Fire Spirit of the Year), an honour recognising his knowledge-sharing on ingredients and skin health [15]. The award year is recorded slightly differently depending on the source: the official Danish Beauty Award organisation places it in 2023, while the brand's own English about-page states 2022 [8], the same year Raz Skincare carried out a relaunch.
Current status
The company is active. Its webshop displays several hundred customer reviews, it lists current lecture appearances, and it ships internationally from its Copenhagen base. The 2024 financial results noted above suggest the business faces commercial pressure, but there is no indication that operations have stopped.
