Overview
RazorPit is a Danish men's-grooming brand built around a single product: a device that cleans a razor blade to keep it usable for far longer than normal. It was invented by Danish engineer Morten Kjeldsen and brought to market in 2008 [11]. The brand is now part of the Matas group: its parent company, Firtal Group ApS, was acquired by the Danish retailer Matas A/S in August 2018 [5].
Although ownership has changed, the product itself remains in active distribution. It is sold internationally through the sister entity Firtal Distribution, which lists RazorPit among its current brands and states retail reach across dozens of countries [3].

Origin and founder
The starting point for RazorPit was a diagnosis rather than a new blade. According to retailer accounts of the brand's history, Kjeldsen's research pointed to the conclusion that razor blades feel blunt not mainly because the metal wears down, but because hair, skin and soap build up on the edge and are not rinsed away after shaving [7]. RazorPit was designed to address that residue: the user presses the razor against a silicone surface and draws it back a few times against the shaving direction to clean the blade.
The product was commercialised from 2008 through Made4Men.dk, a Danish men's-grooming webshop launched in 2007 by Mikkel Harken Salling and Jesper Ernst Hvejsel. That business later became Firtal Group, based in Lystrup near Aarhus.
History and milestones
RazorPit reached the market in 2008 and won a Men's Health Grooming Award in 2011 [9]. According to figures published on a company profile, around 500,000 units had been sold, with cumulative sales tracked from 2012 [11].
The parent company's trajectory shaped the brand's later history. In 2015 the Firtal founders appeared on the Danish television programme Løvens Hule (the local version of Dragons' Den) and secured an investment of three million kroner [4]. In 2018, Matas A/S signed an agreement to acquire Firtal Group ApS for an enterprise value of DKK 130 million, plus an earn-out of up to DKK 20 million; the deal was announced on 29 August 2018 [5]. Danish regional coverage reported the same 130-million-kroner sale of the Lystrup-based company by its Aarhus founders.
Ownership
RazorPit's ownership sits in more than one layer, and sources describe it at different levels. The trademark and patent are held by Firtal Brands ApS [11]; that entity rolls up into Firtal Group ApS, which Matas A/S has owned since August 2018. In short, Firtal Brands is the immediate rights holder, while Matas is the ultimate parent.
A separate ownership note appears on the Swiss-language site razorpit.ch, which is operated by a Swiss reseller, einfachgenial.ch gmbh, rather than by the brand owner. That site carries a copyright notice naming Made4 ApS dated 2008–2009 — an older Danish legal entity — but the current trademark and patent rights are attributed to Firtal Brands ApS.
Products and technology
RazorPit's line centres on the RazorPit razor-blade sharpener, a cleaning device compatible with most standard razors. Third-party retailers describe it as using a "unique and patented friction technology" to clean and maintain the blade [8]. The company's stated performance claims are that the product lets an average blade last for roughly 60 shaves, and up to 150, and that a typical user gets about six times as many shaves from a blade [11].
The patent position is described broadly rather than by number: a company profile states that Firtal Brands holds a patent granted in Europe and a further patent pending in the United States.
Philosophy and positioning
The brand frames its purpose around two connected benefits: saving money by reducing how often blades are replaced, and cutting the waste created when blades are discarded while still functional. On its environmental page, the company notes that hundreds of millions of people use razor blades and throw billions away each year, and says RazorPit meaningfully reduces that waste. It also states that the product is made from recyclable material that is approved for use in the food industry [2].
Recognition
RazorPit received a Men's Health Grooming Award in 2011. It was also featured in 2013 by the product-review site The Green Head, which described the surface as a recycled thermoplastic elastomer with the properties of silicone and rubber [10]. Danish press covered the brand chiefly through its parent company, including reporting on the 2018 Matas acquisition.
Current status
RazorPit is an acquired brand: it has been owned, through Firtal Group ApS, by Matas A/S since 2018. The change of ownership has not taken the product off the market. Firtal Distribution lists RazorPit in its active brand portfolio and describes a retail network spanning tens of thousands of retailers across many countries, with continued availability through general retail and online channels [3].
