Overview
Reome is a British skincare brand founded in January 2023 by Joanna Ellner, built around biotechnology and bio-fermented ingredients [8]. It positions itself in the prestige tier, pairing lab-derived "biomimetic" actives with a restrained, design-led aesthetic, and has grown quickly from a single debut serum into a small collection of serums, cleansers, creams and masks.
The brand's central idea is that ingredients replicated or fermented in a laboratory can deliver visible results while treating the skin gently. Rather than relying on constant exfoliation and cell turnover, Reome emphasises preserving the longevity of skin cells — a stance it sums up in the phrase "better for skin, better for planet." The company remains active and independent, with product launches continuing through 2025.
Origin and founders
Reome was established by Joanna Ellner, a beauty journalist and trained acupuncturist with a degree in traditional Chinese medicine [8]. According to the company, she started the brand after growing disillusioned with the lack of tangible results from even the most science-driven skincare, and set out to place efficacy "at the very heart of the brand." Reome describes her as bringing "18 years of skincare expertise" to the venture, though in her own words she has spoken of spending twenty years "in pursuit of skincare that actually works" [2].
Ellner has framed Reome as science-first rather than design-first, telling one trade publication the brand combines "the science-led formulations of a derma brand, but with the timeless appeal of a classic beauty house" [8]. It launched in 2023 with a single "hero" product, the Active Recovery Broth serum, and has since introduced new formulas one at a time.
Philosophy and positioning
Reome's approach rests on what it calls biotechnology and biofermentation — using lab-derived, bio-identical compounds in place of raw botanical extracts. The company argues these "biomimetic" actives share a molecular structure close to the skin's own, which it says allows for better compatibility, greater absorption and stronger results. Its stated formulation strategy pairs biomimetic actives (the "science" side) with bio-ferments (the "nature" side), and maintains a deliberate window of roughly 15 to 20 percent active ingredients to avoid overwhelming the skin barrier.
The brand's mission, in its own wording, is to "invigorate and balance skin with highly specialised, bio-fermented, and biotech-powered formulas." Its tagline is "Skin Therapy in Every Drop." Reome markets its products as suitable for sensitive skin and, according to its science pages, safe to use during pregnancy. Notably, the formulas are not fragrance-free: the company blends a signature botanical scent of bergamot and clary sage, which it says is used in very small amounts with a low irritation profile.
Science and innovation
Much of Reome's identity is tied to proprietary and trademarked complexes. These include Zeta Fraction, described by the company as a solvent-free plant-extraction process that "captures the essence of fresh living plants within their own habitat"; DHK-3, a bio-active the brand says maintains skin firmness and limits collagen degradation; and further complexes such as Telessence M³, Bio-Rosea Stem Cell, Bio-Chelate CF5 and a biotech hyaluronic acid it labels HA³ [10]. The company says it works with biotechnology laboratories to secure first-to-market ingredients.
In 2023 Reome announced an exclusive co-development partnership with Debut, an L'Oréal-backed biotech company, to develop future formulas [8]. The brand has also aligned itself publicly with the emerging "skin longevity" theme in the industry, targeting cellular senescence — dormant cells linked to inflammation and visible ageing — rather than surface renewal.
Products
Reome's line is centred on skincare, and the company has said it plans to release around 21 products over its first years, all within skincare [8]. Its debut and best-known product is the Active Recovery Broth, a concentrated serum the brand and several reviewers describe as containing 16 clinically proven bio-fermented and biomimetic actives. This was followed by the Three Suns Balm, a cleansing balm, and, in September 2025, the brand's first moisturiser.
That moisturiser, the Biogenic Melting Cream, launched on 3 September 2025 after what the company described as four years of development [10]. Other products include the Firming Eye Treatment, an activated gel-crème the brand says is the first formula powered by its DHK-3 bio-active, and the Hydra-Plasma Veil, a bio-cellulose sheet mask. Hero ingredients across the range include a biotech-enhanced hyaluronic acid, high beta-glucan oat sourced from a farm co-operative in Finland, snow fungus (Tremella), fermented radish root and the Bio-Chelate CF5 mineral complex. The company attributes clinical testing to its formulas, saying the Active Recovery Broth is "clinically proven to hydrate, smooth, and brighten."
The brand sells through its own website and stockists including Liberty, Space NK, Harvey Nichols and Moda Operandi, and offers in-store treatments at Liberty London and Harvey Nichols [8]. Ellner has said online sales made up a large share of early business, while stressing that Reome is "far from being a prototypical direct-to-consumer player."
Sustainability
Reome frames its environmental approach as a "tread lightly" philosophy, arguing that biotech and bio-mimicry reduce reliance on over-harvested botanicals. The company states that manufacturing takes place in the United Kingdom and that its primary packaging is almost entirely glass, which it describes as endlessly recyclable; secondary cartons are FSC-certified and made in part from recycled coffee cups.
On certifications, the brand says all its formulas are suitable for vegetarians and vegans and are PETA-certified [3]. It also says it has adopted the B Corp model, a social-and-environmental business certification, though it describes this status as pending rather than achieved.
Recognition
Despite its short history, Reome collected several UK awards in 2024. The Three Suns Balm won an ELLE UK Future of Beauty Award and Best Cleanser at the Wardrobe Icons Beauty Awards, while the Active Recovery Broth won Best Serum at the Women's Health UK Skincare Awards and was nominated for Best Product for Barrier Repair at the Get the Gloss Awards [6]. The brand has been featured in publications including British Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Refinery29 and Stylist, and in 2026 was named alongside Biodance and Emma Lewisham in a CNN feature on biotech beauty.
Current status
Reome remains active and independently owned. It was still expanding through 2025, with continued product launches, a seed funding round underway to support its biotech positioning, and named plans to grow in North America and Scandinavia [8]. As of its most recent milestones, the launch of the Biogenic Melting Cream in September 2025 marks its latest major product release.
