Summary

Overview

Rudolph Care is a Danish skincare and body-care company founded in Copenhagen in 2009 by Andrea Elisabeth Rudolph [2][6]. It builds its range around the organic açai berry and positions itself as certified, natural skincare made without ingredients it considers harmful. The company remains active and founder-led, with a range that has grown to more than 40 products spanning face care, sun protection, body care, hair care, fragrance and self-tan.

The brand is closely tied to its founder, a former Danish television and radio host, and to a long-running relationship with a small açai-harvesting community in the Brazilian Amazon. Its most recent milestones include a 2024 B Corp recertification and community projects running through 2025.

Origin and founders

Andrea Elisabeth Rudolph worked as a journalist and as a television and radio presenter before starting the company. According to Wikipedia, she trained as a radio host at DR Radio in 1998 and later co-hosted the Danish edition of Dancing with the Stars, Vild med Dans, from 2005.

The company traces its origin to 2006, when Rudolph took part in a Greenpeace research study during her first pregnancy that tested her blood for chemicals and endocrine disruptors. The brand's account says the results showed her body contained harmful substances traced to beauty products; when she cleared her bathroom shelf looking for high-quality skincare free of those ingredients, she found nothing that suited her and set out to make it herself. She began as a one-woman operation in a backyard on Frederiksberg in Copenhagen, personally packing creams and shipping orders. Wikipedia records that the venture launched in 2009 with a three-million-kroner investment from her mother [6].

The açai berry, which became the brand's signature ingredient, is one Rudolph says she discovered on a trip to Rio de Janeiro and was drawn to for its antioxidants, minerals and fatty acids. A cluster of açai appears in the company's logo.

History and milestones

From its backyard beginning, the company grew into a team based at a villa headquarters in the Valby district of Copenhagen, a move it dates to 2018. It reports a current range of more than 40 products.

An early external marker of recognition came in 2010, when the company won Green Product of the Year in the luxury category at the Danish Beauty Awards [6]. In sustainability certification, it achieved its first B Corp certification in 2021 with a score of 88.9 and was recertified in 2024 with a score of 100.9 [4].

Philosophy and positioning

Rudolph Care frames its approach as uniting nature with science. Its stated mission is that "beauty is found in balance – between caring for your skin and caring for the world," and the company describes its aim as harmony between a product's effect, texture and aesthetics alongside care for the environment and health. Its tagline is "wants to make a difference – to your skin and the world."

The company presents itself at the premium end of the market. The clean-beauty retailer Oh My Cream describes it as "the certified organic, eco-responsible luxury brand" and characterises its positioning as one where "luxury and sustainable development are not incompatible" [8]. The same retailer places it within a Scandinavian "healthy glow" idiom.

Products and innovation

The range covers face care, sun protection, body care, hair care, fragrance, self-tan and a parent-and-child line. Frequently cited products include the Açai Facial Oil, the Gentle Cleansing Foam and a Sun Face Cream SPF50.

The organic açai berry is the brand's core ingredient and, by its own account, appears in nearly all its formulas. Oh My Cream describes the fruit as rich in vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids with a high concentration of antioxidants. The company says its products are formulated with active ingredients tested for both their effect on the skin and their tolerance.

Certification is central to how the brand describes its products. It holds the Ecocert COSMOS Organic standard, under which at least 95 percent of ingredients must be of natural origin, as well as the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, the Vegan Trademark, AllergyCertified and Asthma-Allergy Nordic [4]. AllergyCertified products are described as free of known allergens and completely perfume-free [4]. On animal testing, the company states plainly: "We never test our products on animals." Manufacturing is kept in Denmark, where, according to both Wikipedia and Oh My Cream, the products are made by hand [6].

Sustainability

Sustainability is tied directly to the brand's sourcing. Since 2009 it has worked with the same community in Nazarezinho do Meruú, in the northeastern Brazilian state of Pará, for hand-harvested açai. Accounts of the community's size differ: the company describes a community of 250 families with 20 licensed to harvest the berries [5], while the retailer Oh My Cream reports a harvesting agreement with 150 local families [7]; the difference may reflect the brand's distinction between the wider community and the smaller number of licensed harvesters.

The company funds local projects there, including a school renovation carried out in 2021 and 2022 and a multi-sports court begun in 2023 and running to 2025. It says it directs 100,000 Danish kroner a year from sales of the 30ml Açai Facial Oil to the community and donates 4 percent of its annual profits to responsibility projects [5].

Recognition

Beyond the 2010 Danish Beauty Award, the brand has been covered by clean-beauty press. Oh My Cream describes it as a premium and sustainable Danish brand built around the açai "superfruit" and notes that it combines the Ecocert and Nordic Swan certifications on nearly all its products.

Current status

Rudolph Care is active and remains founder-led. Its most recent documented activity includes the 2024 B Corp recertification, community projects in Brazil scheduled through 2025, and the founder's 2023 return as a guest judge on Vild med Dans [6]. The brand sells across the Nordic region and through European retailers, and reports a current catalogue of more than 40 products.
