Overview
The Spirit of Dubai is a luxury fragrance line based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, produced by the Emirati perfume group Nabeel Perfumes [1]. Conceived as a tribute to the city of Dubai, the line comprises fifteen fragrances, each intended to capture a single aspect of the city — from its beaches and towers to what the company describes as its "reputation as a playground for the rich and famous." Its creative lead is Asghar Adam Ali (Al Attar), chairman of Nabeel Perfumes, who is credited as the master perfumer behind all fifteen scents [2].
The line is best known outside the fragrance world for Shumukh, a single perfume presentation that set two Guinness World Records in 2019 and has been widely reported as the most expensive perfume ever made [5][6].

Origin & concept
According to Nabeel Perfumes, The Spirit of Dubai was launched as "a new chapter" in the company's fragrance history, drawing on Dubai as "a city that embraces a wide variety of scenery, captivating contrasts of ancient tradition and the luxuries of a cosmopolitan society." The company frames the line around the tagline "An inspiration. A celebration. A tribute," and lists its stated values as innovation, quality, luxury, creativity and craftsmanship.
The range is organised into two collections. The first eight fragrances form what the company calls the "First Generation," a niche collection in which each scent represents a different attribute of the city. A later set, labelled the "Second Generation," is positioned as an "ultra-niche" collection building on the earlier work. Sources give differing counts for this second set: a retailer listing describes it as seven fragrances, which matches the brand's consistently stated total of fifteen, while a paraphrase of the brand's own About page describes it as nine [7][2]. The company states the total is fifteen in either case.
History & milestones
The line made an early public appearance at Esxence 2015, a fragrance exhibition held at The Mall in Milan in March 2015, where the First Generation was shown. Later that year, at the Luxury Packaging Awards in London, it won two awards — one for its shopping bag and one for its "Dubai Royal Gift Set" — competing against houses including Chloé, Lalique and Kenzo [3].
In March 2017 the company opened an international flagship boutique at 36 Hans Crescent in Knightsbridge, London, which it described as the first UAE ultra-luxury fragrance brand to open such a boutique abroad [3]. The brand's own newsroom records no dated activity after this 2017 opening.
Products & innovation
The line's signature presentation is Shumukh, whose name the company translates from Arabic as "deserving the highest." Unveiled in 2019 at The Dubai Mall, Shumukh is a 1.97-metre standing piece adorned, per the company and Guinness World Records, with 3,571 diamonds totalling 38.55 carats, along with gold, silver, pearls and topaz [4]. Guinness recorded it under the title "most diamonds set on a perfume bottle"; a second Guinness record recognised it as the tallest commercially available remote-controlled fragrance spray product, a reference to a sprayer whose height and direction can be adjusted by remote control [5][6]. The company values the piece at 4.752 million dirham, or about US$1.295 million, and says it took more than three years and 494 trial formulations to develop [4].
Its fragrance draws on notes the company lists as amber, sandalwood, musk, Indian agarwood (oud), Turkish rose, patchouli, ylang-ylang and frankincense. Oud and Arabian perfumery are recurring reference points across the line.
Recognition & press
Shumukh was widely covered in international media in 2019 as, in the words of one profile, "the world's most expensive perfume," valued at US$1.295 million and holding two Guinness World Records [6]. Guinness World Records documented the diamond record directly, attributing the design to Asghar Adam Ali Ibrahim, owner of the Nabeel Perfumes group, with the piece made by Spirit of Dubai Parfums [5]. The line's 2015 Luxury Packaging Awards remain its main recognition outside the Shumukh coverage.
Current status
The brand is active. Its website is operational and carries a 2023 Nabeel Perfumes copyright, and Shumukh remains featured as its flagship. On-site news activity is sparse: the last dated item in the brand's own newsroom is the 2017 London boutique opening, while external coverage extends to the 2019 Guinness records [1]. The line is sold internationally through the company's own channels, including the London boutique and online delivery to multiple countries.
