Summary

Overview

Trussardi is an Italian fashion house founded in 1911 in Bergamo, where Dante Trussardi opened an artisanal leather glove workshop [4]. Over the following century it grew from a specialist glove maker into a Milan-based luxury house spanning leather goods, ready-to-wear and, from the early 1980s, fragrance. On Glowjakt the name appears through Trussardi Parfums, the licensed perfume line that carries the house's identity in beauty retail.

The company remains active. Its ownership has changed hands several times in recent years, and its fragrance business passed to a new licensee in early 2025 [6], but new bags and perfumes have continued to launch through 2026.

Origin & founders

The house traces its beginning to a glove workshop that Dante Trussardi established in Bergamo in 1911 [4]. According to the company, quality and refined taste defined its early identity. During the Second World War the workshop supplied gloves to both the public and the Italian army [4].

The turn from craft firm to fashion house came under Dante's grandson, Nicola Trussardi, who took over leadership in 1970. Nicola expanded the business into bags, scarves, other leather goods and ready-to-wear clothing, and in 1975 introduced the Italian greyhound as the brand's emblem [4]. The house describes the greyhound as "elegant, fast, and determined," a figure it still uses today.

History & milestones

Through the 1970s and 1980s Trussardi positioned itself as a lifestyle house rather than a single-category label, opening its first Milan boutique on Via Sant'Andrea and staging fashion events across the city. The company says it collaborated in this period with Alitalia, Lancia and Alfa Romeo, and opened Palatrussardi as a venue combining fashion, music and entertainment.

Fragrance became part of the house early in the 1980s, during a period the perfume press has called the "Italian Wave" of designer scent [5]. Sources disagree on the exact first year: Wikipedia dates the first perfume, "Trussardi," to 1980, followed by "Trussardi Uomo" in 1983 [4], while editorial coverage places Trussardi Donna in 1982 [5]. Trussardi Jeans followed in 1986, and by the mid-1980s the company operated some 120 stores worldwide [4]. Nicola Trussardi died in 1999, after which Francesco Trussardi became chairman [4].

Ownership

Control of the fashion house has shifted repeatedly since the late 2010s. In February 2019 the investment firm QuattroR acquired a 60% stake in Trussardi [4]. In March 2024 the Miroglio Group acquired the company and named Alberto Racca chief executive [4].

The fragrance business sits under a separate licensing arrangement. Wikipedia records Angelini Beauty as the Trussardi Parfums licensee since 2012 [4]; other reporting dates the license to 2010 with a 2022 extension. Angelini Beauty was later renamed AB Parfums, and in early 2025 Give Back Beauty agreed to acquire it, taking on the Trussardi fragrance license along with several other names [6]. The current licensee is Give Back Beauty.

Philosophy & positioning

Trussardi presents itself as an Italian heritage house built on leather craftsmanship, with gloves as what it calls its "original, defining gesture." The company frames its approach as "a progressive luxury that doesn't need to raise its voice," and articulates a "Gentle Society" vision centered on inclusivity, human relationships and cultural connection. Under the Miroglio Group it has summarised its values as "freedom, beauty, and kindness." One of its editorial lines captures the intended register: "This is our kind of elegance: not loud, but deeply felt."

Products & innovation

The house's signature fragrances date to its early-1980s entry into perfumery. Trussardi Donna, described in editorial coverage as a defining feminine scent of its era, was housed in a bottle textured to resemble crocodile skin — a nod to the brand's leather heritage designed under Nicola Trussardi's direction [5]. Its masculine counterpart, Trussardi Uomo, was positioned as an Italian leather-tinged fragrance in the same tradition. The perfume line has continued into recent years, with releases including Primo Trussardi (2024) and Trussardi Elegantly Cool (2026). Alongside fragrance, the house's core output remains leather goods, accessories and ready-to-wear, including the FW25 "Orbita" bag collection.
