Overview
V Canto is an Italian niche fragrance house based near the Adriatic coast in the province of Rimini, launched by siblings Paolo and Tiziana Terenzi as a perfume line built around Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy. Its first fragrance, Mastin, appeared in 2015 [5], though one French-language source dates the line to 2011 [14]. The brand is a division of the family-owned candle and perfume maker Cereria Terenzi Evelino, and its founders are the same pair behind the Tiziana Terenzi perfume house [5].
The line takes its name and its central theme from the fifth canto of Dante's Inferno — the story of the doomed lovers Paolo and Francesca — a tale set at the nearby Castello di Gradara, the medieval castle the Terenzi family has lived beside for more than seven centuries.
Origin and founders
V Canto was created by Paolo and Tiziana Terenzi, who serve as its creative directors, with Paolo Terenzi working as the perfumer behind the compositions. According to the independent perfume blog Mr.M, the pair introduced V Canto as a new line from the family company Cereria Terenzi Evelino, and are also the founders of the Tiziana Terenzi house.
The company frames the collection as a tribute to place and lineage — described on its site as a love story about "one's roots and native land." The family traces its presence near Gradara Castle back over 700 years, a claim the brand repeats across its own pages and echoed by the parent company's site.
History and milestones
The roots of the business predate the perfume line by decades. The parent firm, Cereria Terenzi, was founded in 1968 in Cattolica by Evelino Terenzi, beginning as a small artisan candle workshop. His children, Tiziana and Paolo, later expanded the family business into fragrance, establishing the Tiziana Terenzi perfume house around 2012 [13].
V Canto followed in 2015 with the release of Mastin. The dating is not entirely settled: while multiple editorial sources and the brand's own account place the first perfumes in 2015, a French-language listing records 2011 [14].
In 2023, the company announced a distribution partnership with Nobilis Group, describing how its Terenzi lines had entered that distributor's portfolio. In late 2025 the brand presented its Arkani collection at the TFWA World Exhibition & Conference in Cannes, hosting guests aboard a yacht named TIAMAT.
Ownership
V Canto is a brand of Cereria Terenzi Evelino S.R.L., operating alongside Spazio Terenzi S.R.L. and coordinated under Terenzi Group Holding S.R.L. [3]. The same corporate family oversees the Tiziana Terenzi perfume house and the wellness-oriented Giardino Benessere line [8]. The group is registered in San Giovanni in Marignano, with its headquarters — described as the "Candle Palace" — in Cattolica, Italy.
Philosophy and positioning
The house presents each fragrance as a literary and historical artwork rather than a straightforward scent. Its stated aim is to make "precious and unique fragrances that contain all the medieval poetry and history of passion, love, sins, virtues, vices, but above all true humanity." The tagline, Creatori di meraviglia — "creators of wonder" — sits alongside a verse drawn from the fifth canto of Dante's poem.
The bottle design is part of this narrative. The company describes the sinuous curves as the female form and the lacquered metal cap as the helmet and shield of a knight, together evoking "two bodies united in an embrace." Editorial coverage has positioned the line as luxury perfumery framed as "a work of art" [6], and the products are sold as extrait de parfum concentrations.
Products
The line launched with Mastin and expanded quickly; ten further unisex fragrances followed in the same year, among them Magnificat, Mirabile and Mea Culpa [10][11]. Other named releases include Isotta, Malatesta, Alibi and Amans, organised into collections that the brand labels Blue, Red, Green, Foglie d'Amore (Love Leaves), Anime del Castello (Souls of the Castle) and Arkani. Fragrantica's brand profile lists 51 V Canto perfumes, with the earliest from 2015 and the newest from 2025, and names Paolo Terenzi as the sole nose [14].
Recognition and press
V Canto has drawn coverage from niche-perfume publications. Mr.M reviewed the line in 2021 under the title "V Canto: Is Love at First Scent Real?", describing it as a Cereria Terenzi line inspired by Dante [5]. Parfum-Centrum featured the collection in 2024, characterising it as luxury perfumes positioned as works of art [6]. Fragrantica's review of Mastin described it as "a niche fragrance befitting the likes of a connoisseur, who is used to complex and thick aromas" [9].
Current status
V Canto is active. Its most recent documented activity is a November 2025 diary post covering its appearance at the TFWA exhibition in Cannes. The brand is distributed internationally through Nobilis Group and carried by specialty perfume retailers across Europe and the United States, and it is present in Nordic markets.
