Edgewell Personal Care

6 brands · founded 2015 · United States

Edgewell Personal Care is an American consumer-products company based in Shelton, Connecticut. It makes personal-care goods including razors, shaving preparations, sunscreen, skincare and, until recently, feminine-hygiene products, selling them through a portfolio of long-established brands rather than under its own name.

The company was formed on July 1, 2015, when it was spun off from Energizer Holdings and began trading as an independent public company on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker EPC [4]. According to Edgewell, the group itself is young, but many of its brands are not: "Our company was formed in 2015," it notes, "but our brands have a long history" [2].

History & milestones

Edgewell emerged from a corporate reorganisation. In 2015 Energizer Holdings separated its household-battery business from its personal-care business, and the personal-care side became Edgewell Personal Care, an independent listed company headquartered in Connecticut [4]. It inherited a set of shaving and sun-care brands that predated the split by decades.

In the years that followed, the group expanded chiefly through acquisition, adding men's grooming and skincare labels to a base built on wet shaving and sun protection. More recently it has also trimmed its portfolio, agreeing in 2025 to sell its feminine-care business [4].

Portfolio & brands

Edgewell's brands span several categories. In shaving and blades it owns Schick, the British brand Wilkinson Sword and the blade maker Personna. In sun and skin care it owns Hawaiian Tropic and Banana Boat. Its men's grooming and skincare lines include Cremo, Jack Black and the UK brand Bulldog.

Several of these labels carry long histories of their own, which the company presents as a core part of its identity — a group of heritage names gathered under one corporate owner rather than a single unified brand.

Acquisitions & strategy

Acquisition has been Edgewell's main route to growth since the spin-off. In November 2016 it announced the purchase of Bulldog Skincare Holdings Limited, a British men's grooming brand [3]. It followed this in 2018 with the men's skincare brand Jack Black, bought for roughly $90.3 million, and in 2020 with the men's grooming brand Cremo, for about $235 million [4].

Not every deal completed. In May 2019 Edgewell agreed to acquire the shaving start-up Harry's for around $1.37 billion, but abandoned the transaction in February 2020 after the U.S. Federal Trade Commission opposed it [4]. The following year the group returned to acquisitions, buying the women's shaving brand Billie for approximately $310 million in 2021 [4].

The group has also reshaped its portfolio by selling. In 2025 it agreed to divest its feminine-care business to the Swedish hygiene company Essity for about $340 million [4], narrowing its focus toward shaving, grooming and sun care.

Ownership

Edgewell Personal Care is a publicly traded company, listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol EPC [4]. It has been independent since its 2015 separation from Energizer Holdings, which is no longer its parent; the spin-off left Edgewell as a stand-alone listed business rather than a subsidiary [4].
