Overview
Blauer is an American workwear and outerwear label founded in Boston in 1936, now Italian-owned and active as a lifestyle-fashion brand. Its beauty presence is a single, externally licensed fragrance line rather than house-made cosmetics: perfumes sold under the Blauer name are produced by the Italian licensee Venice Olfactory, part of the Mavive group, under an agreement with the brand's Italian parent [5].
For most of its history Blauer made uniforms, not perfume. The company was established in 1936 by Louis Blauer as Blauer Mfg. Co. to supply police forces, the navy and other armed services with technical clothing [2]. Its move into beauty came only after an Italian fashion holding took over the brand in the 2000s and relaunched it for a wider consumer market.
Origin & founders
The firm began in Boston as a sewing contractor for local department stores. According to Highsnobiety, Louis Blauer's sons Maurice and Aaron then steered it toward service apparel, producing raincoats and uniforms for the United States military and the Massachusetts State Police during the 1950s [6]. The company describes this period as the point at which it "started producing its own garments," including a light grey waterproof jacket adopted by several military branches.
Over the following decades Blauer established itself in workwear and public-service clothing. The same editorial account credits the company with introducing kevlar bulletproof vests and the fluorescent yellow now common in hazardous-work settings [6]. The brand presents itself as "the fashion brand that treasures and renews the tradition of American outerwear," with signature pieces including the police cruiser jacket, leather bombers and technical down jackets.
History & milestones
The turn toward fashion began in 2001, when the Italian holding company FGF Industry signed a licensing agreement to bring Blauer into the apparel market [2]. Highsnobiety describes this as the moment "the brand's utilitarian pedigree" met "a pure fashion perspective for the very first time" [6].
In 2017, FGF Industry acquired 50 percent of the brand, restructuring it as a lifestyle-fashion label while retaining its heritage [2]. The transaction formed an Italian-American joint venture co-owned with the Blauer family; sources record the resulting entity under slightly different names, with Highsnobiety naming it "BWF Srl — Blauer Fashion World" and listing Enzo Fusco, Silvana Fusco, their daughter Federica, son-in-law Giuseppe D'Amore and the Blauer family among its owners [6]. The brand's fragrance line followed in 2018.
Ownership
Blauer is controlled by FGF Industry, an Italian fashion holding based in the Veneto region, which the brand's own site and editorial coverage consistently name as its owner [2]. (A separate harvest note raised the possibility of an L.P. Royal / Manifatture 7 Bell connection, but this is not confirmed in any of the sources reviewed.)
FGF Industry is led by Enzo Fusco, who serves as the brand's president and creative director. Before founding the holding, Fusco spent close to three decades as a design consultant for Italian and international fashion houses, among them Kenzo, Versace, Armani, Moschino and Yves Saint Laurent. He has summarised the brand's positioning as "an American brand with Italian design."
Philosophy & positioning
Blauer frames its identity around the idea of the uniform, reinterpreted for a contemporary audience. The company says it takes "the concept of uniform for independent and cosmopolitan men and women who are sensitive to quality, authenticity and performing materials," values it summarises as quality, authenticity and performance. Its tagline is "Born in US, No Boundaries raised." In practice this means an American workwear tradition reworked through Italian design and ownership, with the licensed fragrance line extending the same heritage identity into beauty.
Products & innovation
Within Glowjakt's scope, Blauer is represented by fragrance. The perfumes are not made by the fashion house itself; according to the trade outlet Vanity in Milan, "the creation of the fragrances stems from the agreement between Venice Olfactory and FGF Industry" [5]. Venice Olfactory, described as a creative house specialising in artistic fragrances, holds the Blauer perfume license and is part of the Mavive group, run by the Vidal family [5].
The line debuted in 2018 with a pair of eau de toilette, Un1t3d Man and Un1t3d Woman (marketed as "Blauer United") [5]. The men's scent is an aromatic fougère built on bergamot, apple and cardamom over a musk, amber and oakmoss base, while the women's is a fruity floral with pear, damask rose and ylang-ylang. Later releases include the Blauer UN1T3D STATES duo, presented in editions carrying the appearance, symbols and colours of the American flag [7], and Blauer Boston 1936 — The Journey Collection [8].
Sustainability
Blauer's environmental messaging applies to its clothing rather than its fragrances. Under a "Sustainable code," the company says its outerwear collections expand the range of down jackets with ecological padding and eco-friendly fabrics, summarised on its site as "Look & Feel Good while doing good for our planet." No third-party certifications or recycled-material figures are stated, and the messaging does not extend to the perfume line.
Current status
Blauer is active. As of 2026 the brand's official site carries current Spring/Summer collections across its themed lines, and its fragrances remain in production under Venice Olfactory. The fashion business remains its core, with beauty limited to the licensed fragrance range.
