Summary

Overview

Byron Parfums is a French niche fragrance house founded in Paris in 2016 by Yann Derriennic, who works under the alias LARCHITECT [1]. The house specialises in extrait de parfum, the most concentrated fragrance format, and has grown from its Paris base to distribution in more than thirty countries [2].

What sets the brand apart is its founder's background. LARCHITECT is a self-taught perfumer and former music producer who came up through Parisian street culture, and he frames perfume-making as a kind of composition. According to the company, he "mixes notes as if composing music," an approach it ties to a synesthetic sensibility. The result is a small, collector-oriented catalogue that has found much of its audience online.

Origin & founders

The brand was established in 2016 by Yann Derriennic, known professionally as LARCHITECT. He grew up in the northern suburbs of Paris and built an identity in street culture before turning to perfumery: tagging and graffiti, rap with technical lyrics, hip-hop battling, and choreography for a self-described "old-school" crew of taggers, dancers and rappers. A former beatmaker, he is self-taught as a perfumer.

Sources differ on when his work in fragrance began. The brand's own site dates the founding to 2016, and most third-party retailers follow that date [1]. A 2019 editorial profile by Anthoscents, however, described the brand as having been created eleven years earlier — implying roughly 2008 — and the retailer Luckyscent places the start "approximately 14 years ago" [10][9]. Both earlier figures appear to refer to LARCHITECT's broader creative path rather than the official launch of the label, which the brand and the bulk of its sources record as 2016.

Philosophy & positioning

The house presents fragrance composition as a musical act. The founder, who the brand calls a "synesthetic and perfectionist artist," describes perceiving the sounds of instruments as colours and looking in perfume for "the alchemic junction between musical notes and chromatic nuances" [9]. Byron Parfums says its aim is to create scents that let "the soul travel," and the brand groups its work around the ideas of original, addictive and powerful compositions.

Positioning sits at the intersection of street-culture aesthetics and traditional French perfumery. The house works almost entirely in extrait de parfum concentration, which it favours for density and lasting wear, and lists natural raw materials among its core selling points. Its slogan is "Hooked with just one sniff" [1].

Products & innovation

Byron Parfums organises its line into named collections — Narcotic, Pirates and Red Extreme among them — alongside limited editions and travel sizes. The Narcotic collection is described by the brand as a range of "addictive and powerful fragrance extracts," while Pirates is positioned as a sensual, exotic set and Red Extreme as the most overtly sensual of the three.

Recurring signatures include Mula Mula, a gourmand-leaning composition with caramel and oud, and The Chronic, a spiced amber. Other releases span La French (citrus, iris absolute, ambergris), Black Dragon (honey, tobacco, amber), Barba Rossa and Pirates 2.0. Across the catalogue the brand draws on materials such as oud, amber, vanilla, caramel, saffron, tobacco and iris. Limited editions have continued in recent years, including Black Butterfly, announced in October 2024 [1].

The label has also released a handful of collaborations, listing partnerships with the musicians and figures Lord Kossity, Biskuit, Verlsilver and Aéro [3].

Recognition

Byron Parfums has been covered by specialist fragrance media rather than mainstream press. Anthoscents published an editorial profile in 2019 focused on the founder's synesthetic approach and early signatures such as Mula Mula, 0.9, Pirates, The Chronic and Oud Bourbon [10]. The US niche retailer Luckyscent, operating since 2002, carries a selection of the line [9], and the brand is profiled in the Fragrantica designer database. Much of its visibility has come through Instagram and YouTube communities of fragrance enthusiasts and collectors [10].

Distribution

The house sells directly through its own site and maintains a wide wholesale network of niche perfume boutiques across more than thirty countries [4]. Stockists include Jovoy in Paris, Taizo in Cannes, and a large presence in Italy and the United States, where retailers such as Luckyscent and Maxaroma carry the range. Listed markets extend across France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Norway and beyond.
