Overview
Dermatix is a range of silicone-based scar-care products, best known for a topical gel applied to healed scars. It does not operate as an independent company. Instead, it is a portfolio brand held within larger pharmaceutical and consumer-health groups, and its rights have been divided by region. In parts of Europe, the brand belongs to Cooper Consumer Health, a French self-care group [4]. In Asia-Pacific, it is marketed by the regional arm of the Italian Menarini group [8].
The brand's status is best described as acquired: it remains on sale, but as one line among many in a corporate portfolio rather than as a business of its own. Its original developer, country of origin and launch year are not publicly documented. The earliest dated event in its recorded history is a 2008 change of hands in Asia.
History & milestones
The first documented chapter of the Dermatix story is a corporate transaction rather than a launch. In March 2008, the trade publication GEN reported that Valeant Pharmaceuticals had completed the sale of its Asia-Pacific operations to Invida Pharmaceutical Holdings for approximately 37.8 million US dollars in cash [10]. The deal covered around 230 stock-keeping units, and GEN named Dermatix alongside Kinerase and Efudix as examples of the "global dermatology brands" included in the sale.
Under the agreement, Invida took over Valeant's licensing rights and commercial operations for products marketed in 12 Asian markets, including Singapore, the Philippines, Taiwan, Korea and China, along with certain product rights in Japan [10]. Valeant's chief executive, J. Michael Pearson, described the Asia-Pacific business as a subscale operation that was diverting management attention. Invida's chief executive, Guido Oelkers, presented the purchase as part of the company's shift from a sales-oriented service firm toward a specialty pharmaceutical company.
The wording of that report matters for understanding the brand. It speaks of licensing rights and commercial operations, which suggests that Valeant held regional rights to sell Dermatix rather than outright worldwide ownership. How the brand later reached its present holders in Europe and Asia is not described in public reports.
Ownership
Today, Dermatix appears in the brand directory of Cooper Consumer Health, which lists Dermatix for Italy and Spain and Dermatix Ultra for Germany and Austria [4]. The listing gives no separate website for the brand, which reflects its role as a product line inside the group rather than a stand-alone label.
Cooper Consumer Health traces its roots to 1907, when Dr. Albert Salmon founded La Coopération Pharmaceutique Française in Melun, just outside Paris [2]. The company began as a pharmacists' cooperative and has since changed hands several times. Caravelle acquired it in 2000, and the investment firm CVC took control in 2021 [2]. In July 2024, Cooper completed its purchase of the over-the-counter business of Viatris, a deal the company says doubled its revenues to about 1.2 billion euros and brought brands such as Betadine, Saugella, Armolipid and CB12 into the group [6]. No public source states whether Dermatix itself arrived through that transaction.
The company describes itself as Europe's largest independent self-care platform [1]. Within the group, Dermatix sits alongside sister brands including Echinacin, CB12 and Saugella. Cooper says it serves more than 100,000 pharmacies and drugstores across Europe and beyond, which places Dermatix within a pharmacy-led consumer-health business rather than a beauty house.
In Asia-Pacific, the picture is different. Menarini's regional consumer-health division presents Dermatix on its dermatology page, where the range is linked to online shops in Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Malaysia [8]. Menarini's role is that of a marketer in the region; whether it holds the brand outright or under licence is not stated.
Products & innovation
The core of the range is a silicone gel intended for scars that have already closed. In Asia-Pacific, the line extends well beyond a single tube. Menarini's current listing covers Dermatix Ultra, a version for children called Dermatix Ultra Kids, reusable scar sheets, a gel aimed at acne scars, a portable scar stick, a spot patch and a wound-care product [8].
In Europe, Cooper's directory distinguishes between the original Dermatix name and the Dermatix Ultra line, with each sold in a different set of countries. The difference in naming between markets is a direct consequence of the brand's regional split.
Recognition
Independent coverage of Dermatix is limited and mostly practical in tone. In February 2022, the Singapore beauty site Daily Vanity published a first-person review in which a writer tested four scar products over about three months [9]. The products were from Dermatix, Mederma, Bio-Oil and Remescar. The reviewer explained that the Dermatix Ultra Advanced Scar Formula uses silicone technology to reduce the appearance of scarring, particularly raised and keloid scars, and is also suggested for scars from trauma, burns and surgery.
Of the four products, the reviewer reported the best personal result with Dermatix, describing a scar that had smoothed out and lightened over roughly two months of nightly use. The same review noted that the gel was on the expensive side and could be hard to locate, since the brand's own channels did not list stockists.
Current status
Dermatix remains in commercial distribution as of 2026, but only as a portfolio brand. In Europe it is listed by Cooper Consumer Health for Italy, Spain, Germany and Austria, and in Asia-Pacific it is marketed through Menarini's regional consumer-health business. The brand has no independent company, no stand-alone corporate website and no documented founding history of its own. Its status is therefore best understood as acquired, with ownership and marketing rights divided between groups by region.
