Summary

Overview

Dr. Sebagh is a British skincare brand founded by Dr. Jean-Louis Sebagh, a French cosmetic doctor who has practised in both Paris and London. The line grew directly out of his clinical work: an "Advanced Ageing-Maintenance" range that translated the methods of his aesthetic practice into products sold to the public. The company is headquartered in London, where it also runs a clinic, and maintains a second clinic in Paris.

The brand dates its skincare launch inconsistently. Its homepage and the editorial title Country & Town House both place the launch in 2005 [10], while the company's own about page gives 2004 and marks a 20th anniversary in 2024 [2]. The likeliest reading is that 2004 was an internal or soft launch and 2005 the public, commercial one. The brand remains active, with new product launches recorded through 2024 and 2025.

Founder

Jean-Louis Sebagh is an Algerian-born French doctor who graduated from the University of Paris in 1979. After training that included a period in Los Angeles in the mid-1980s, he built cosmetic practices in Paris and then London, becoming known for non-surgical anti-ageing procedures using botox, collagen and vitamin injections [9]. According to the brand, he was among the first to introduce collagen injections in France and to bring botox to the UK, and he coined the term "Ageing-Maintenance" around 1985 to describe preserving a youthful appearance without surgery [10].

Sources differ on when his London practice opened. The company's about page and the Country & Town House profile both give 1994 [2][10]; a separate clinic-history page on the brand site states 1998 [5]. The brand later treated 1994 as the established date.

History & milestones

The skincare line followed roughly two decades of clinical practice. After the mid-2000s launch, the brand reports its first beauty award in 2006 and counts 37 awards to date as of 2024 [10]. In 2018 Sebagh established a charity, The Mercury Foundation. The company purchased Chandos House, an 18th-century Robert Adam townhouse in Marylebone, in 2020, and relocated its London clinic there in 2023. Recent product activity includes the Exo C Booster, an exosome-based vitamin C launch in September 2024, and a re-launch of the Platinum Gold Elixir serum in new packaging in April 2025.

Philosophy & positioning

The brand's organising idea is "Ageing-Maintenance": the view that skin can be improved at any age through early intervention with clinically formulated skincare and non-invasive treatment, rather than surgery. Country & Town House summarised the company's stance as emphasising clinical expertise and personalised care over trend-driven launches, and quoted Sebagh's position that "you can improve skin at any age with good skincare and the right ingredients." The company also frames its products around the formula itself rather than presentation, stating that "the formula is the product" and that "the outer carton never was."

Positioned at the premium end of the market, the range is sold through the brand's own site, its clinics, and selected department stores. A Serum Bar concept invites customers to mix individual serums into personalised combinations, working from the idea that there is "no fixed routine, only what your skin needs today."

Products & innovation

The range centres on serums and treatment skincare built around ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, collagen peptides, vitamin C, retinol, rosehip seed oil and resveratrol. Its most-cited product is Serum Repair, a hydrating serum combining hyaluronic acid with what the company calls Micro-Molecular Collagen Peptides, which it says stimulate the skin's own fibroblast cells to produce more collagen. Other signature products include Supreme Maintenance Youth Serum, built around resveratrol; Rose de Vie Serum, based on organic virgin rosehip seed oil; Pure Vitamin C Powder Cream; and Supreme Night Secret. Of Supreme Maintenance, the brand claims it "contains the highest percentage of active ingredients of any skincare products currently available" [12].

Sustainability

In 2020 the company introduced a "Box-Free Beauty" option, removing the outer cartons from products to cut packaging waste and shipping emissions and offering a permanent 10% discount on box-free purchases. It states that the inner packaging — bottles, jars and tubes — remains fully recyclable, and that formulation, active concentrations and manufacturing are unchanged when the carton is removed.

Recognition

The brand and its products have been recognised by UK beauty press. Serum Repair was voted "Most Magical Perfector" by Cosmopolitan and "Best Skin Plumper" by Harper's Bazaar, and Supreme Night Secret was named "Best Night Cream for Mature Skin" by Harper's Bazaar [8]. In 2024 the Pure Vitamin C Powder Cream took a Harper's Bazaar award for vitamin C and Retinol Night Repair won a Tatler award for best overnight serum, and the brand was featured in the Great British Brands 2024 publication. The founder has separately been profiled by titles including Vanity Fair and the London Evening Standard.

Sebagh's clinical clientele has included Cindy Crawford, Elle Macpherson and Kylie Minogue [9]. With Crawford he co-created the Meaningful Beauty range in 2004, which is a separate brand from the Dr. Sebagh skincare line [9].

Ownership

The Dr. Sebagh skincare line appears to be founder-owned and independent; no parent company is documented. Wikipedia's reference to the brand being "marketed by Guthy-Renker," a California direct-sales company, relates to the separate Meaningful Beauty range rather than to Dr. Sebagh's own line [9].

Current status

The brand is active. It continues to trade through its direct site and operates clinics in London and Paris, with new launches in 2024 and 2025 and regular UK editorial coverage. International shipping and a US customer contact point indicate a multi-region reach, though the company remains anchored in the United Kingdom with Paris as a secondary base.
