Overview
HAIRMATE is a Polish haircare brand that grew out of a Warsaw hair-salon business of the same name. The salon was co-founded by hairstylist Tymoteusz Pięta and Joanna Bojanek, who opened their first location at Kolejowa 47 in Warsaw in 2014 [9]; some editorial sources place the start of the business a year earlier, in 2013 [8]. The cosmetics line came later, described by the company as "born from years of experience in Hairmate salons." It is sold direct-to-consumer through hairmate.com and through Nordic retailers, and the brand remains active, though at the time it was surveyed every product in its online store was listed as out of stock.
The range is built entirely around hair: shampoos, conditioners, masks, serums, scalp treatments and styling products such as waxes, sprays and powders. HAIRMATE describes its products as offering "professional quality, accessible to all," reflecting the salon background of its founders.
⚑ Thinner sourcing. The article relies largely on the brand's own statements (T2–T3). Glowpedia is seeking independent sources.
Origin & founders
The salon business began in 2014, when Pięta and Bojanek opened on Kolejowa Street in Warsaw's Wola district after roughly a year of preparation funded without outside investment. Pięta, described as a hair stylist, hairdresser and chemical engineer, built the company's reputation behind the chair; Bojanek had previously worked in film-costume assistance and e-commerce marketing. From a single salon the operation grew into a team of more than a hundred hairdressers across ten HAIRMATE salons in Poland.
The cosmetics line is a later outgrowth of that salon work rather than the starting point. The company frames it as a distillation of what it learned running the salons, though it has not published a specific launch year for the products themselves.
History & milestones
In 2017 the founders extended the business into education, opening the Hairmate School, a hairdressing academy. Beyond the salon and product work, Pięta has become a visible figure in Polish hairdressing: his styling has appeared in Vogue, Elle and Glamour, and he holds ambassador roles with Dyson and Wella Professional.
Ownership
The brand is operated by Hairmate Sp. z o.o., a Polish limited-liability company registered in Warsaw, listed as the data controller in the site's privacy policy [7]. A separate entity, E-Commerce Solutions Sp. z o.o., appears on the contact page at a different Warsaw address [3]; this second company seems to handle the shop and fulfilment rather than to own the brand. No parent company is identified in the available sources.
Philosophy & positioning
HAIRMATE positions itself around personalization and user choice, summed up in its tagline "Your hair. Your choice." The company says haircare "should feel personal, never prescribed," and structures its catalogue into four steps — cleansing, nourishing, pampering and styling — that customers are encouraged to combine freely through a "Mix & Match" concept rather than following a fixed routine. A Spanish retailer describes the line as "a young and dynamic brand born from the desire to provide effective, easy-to-use hair care products" [10].
On pricing, the brand sits between mass-market and salon tiers: products are inexpensive yet carry the professional framing of their salon origins.
Products & innovation
The catalogue spans roughly four dozen products with playful names such as Pure Volume, Coco Dust, Pony Wax, Salt Wave and Scalp Rub. A Spanish retailer lists the formulas as "100% vegan" and "free of silicones and harsh sulfates" [10], claims not repeated across all of the brand's retail listings.
Among individual products, the Kissy Oil serum stands out in consumer feedback: on the Polish review platform Wizaz it carries the brand's highest review volume, rated 4.4 out of 5 across 57 reviews [12]. Reception elsewhere in the catalogue is mixed, with several styling products scoring considerably lower on the same platform.
Recognition
Recognition has centred on the founder rather than the products. Pięta received a Gala Beauty Stars award in 2017 and a Vogue Beauty Awards honour in 2022 [8].
Distribution
HAIRMATE sells directly through its own Shopify-based store at hairmate.com, with international shipping, and is stocked by Nordic beauty retailers including Lyko, which carries part of the range across Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland [11]. Products are also available in the brand's own salons.
Current status
The brand is classified as active: it maintains a live website, a registered Polish company, ten operating salons and Nordic retail distribution. One signal complicates the picture — at the time of survey, all forty-six products on hairmate.com were marked out of stock [6], which may reflect a restocking or relaunch phase rather than a wind-down, given the continuing third-party distribution.
