Overview
Iceberg is an Italian fashion house founded in 1974 in San Giovanni in Marignano, in the Emilia-Romagna region, by Giuliana Marchini Gerani and her husband Silvano Gerani [3]. The same couple had earlier established Gilmar Group, the company that still owns the Iceberg label, and which sources date to 1962 [5]. Beginning as knitwear specialists, the house became an early proponent of fashionable sportswear and is now part of a broader fashion business; for beauty audiences, its most relevant output is a perfume line that has run since the late 1980s and remains in production.
The brand is active. Its current fragrances are sold online and across Nordic retailers, the storefront carries a 2026 copyright, and the perfume range has been produced under a worldwide license since 2020.
Origin and founders
Gilmar describes the brand as the result of "the visionary intuition" of Giuliana Marchini Gerani and Silvano Gerani, who launched Iceberg in 1974. The label set out to introduce what the company calls "the new concept of sportswear deluxe." Its first creative director was the French designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, whose Pop Art-inspired knitwear shaped the house's early identity. During the 1980s, Gilmar lists figures including Andy Warhol, Vivienne Westwood and Franco Moschino as testimonials connected to what it terms the Iceberg universe.
There is a recurring date discrepancy worth noting. Gilmar and Wikipedia place the launch of the Iceberg brand in 1974, while some fragrance references cite 1962 [3][7]. The two dates describe different events: 1974 is the debut of the Iceberg label, and 1962 is the founding of the parent company, Gilmar Group, by the same couple [5].
Fragrances
Iceberg's perfume history began in 1989 with an eponymous women's scent, presented in an unusual zig-zag bottle and composed by perfumer Sophie Labbé [9]. A men's companion, Iceberg Homme, followed shortly after; reference sites differ on whether it appeared in 1990 or 1991 [7]. In 1995 the house introduced the Iceberg Twice line, later described by one fragrance database as having become a classic of the range. Around the line's 25-year mark, two anniversary scents inspired by the original Twice were added — Twice Nero for men and Twice Rosa for women.
The current catalogue includes Iceberg Homme, Twice Gold, Twice Nero and a scent called Change the Flow. The company describes its men's fragrances as "strong and captivating," built on a blend of woods and leather lifted by fresh and spicy notes. That positioning extends the label's broader identity, which Gilmar frames around statement knitwear, Pop Art references and what it describes as "logomania."
Ownership and licensing
Iceberg is owned by Gilmar Group, formally Gilmar Divisione Industria S.p.A., based in San Giovanni in Marignano [2]. The fashion house has been directed by the British designer James Long since 2016, and Gilmar credits him with repositioning the label [6]. Paolo Gerani, a son of the founders, has served as a senior figure in the group's management.
The perfumes are made under license rather than in-house. In July 2020, Gilmar Group signed a 10-year agreement with Give Back Beauty covering the design, production and worldwide distribution of Iceberg fragrances for men and women, according to trade publication WWD [6]. The previous licensee, Perfume Holding, had ended its arrangement by what WWD called an amicable resolution. Give Back Beauty, founded by Corrado Brondi, also handles fragrances for brands such as Elizabeth Arden, Coach and Jimmy Choo.
Recognition and press
Wikipedia notes that Iceberg products have been worn by public figures including Pamela Anderson, Paris Hilton, Lil' Kim and Mischa Barton [5]. In July 2011, an Iceberg collection was presented at The Brandery fashion show in Barcelona. The 2020 licensing deal was reported by WWD, which quoted Gilmar Group chief executive Paolo Gerani saying the brand was "growing internationally" [6].
Current status
The brand remains commercially active. Its e-commerce site sells current fragrances, including Twice Nero, Twice Gold and Change the Flow, and carries a 2026 copyright [1]. The fragrance line, spanning from 1989 to the present, stays in production under the Give Back Beauty license signed in 2020, and Iceberg continues under the creative direction established in the 2010s.
