Overview
iWhite is a Belgian teeth-whitening brand making at-home kits, dissolving strips, whitening toothpastes and mouthwash. It is developed and manufactured by Sylphar, a company based in Deurle, Belgium, and has been marketing whitening products since 2008 [4]. The brand sits in oral care rather than conventional cosmetics, and is sold across the Nordics through pharmacies as well as retail and online channels.
Ownership changed hands in early 2022: Sylphar International NV, the company behind iWhite, was acquired by the Swedish group Karo Pharma (now Karo Healthcare) for EUR 290 million, in a deal completed in January 2022 [6]. iWhite continues to operate as one of Karo Healthcare's consumer-health brands.
Origin
According to the company, Sylphar started in 2008 as a spin-off from a publicly listed dental-care company, and describes itself as a manufacturer of medical devices and cosmetic products [4]. iWhite has marketed whitening products under the Sylphar umbrella since that year. The brand's founders are not publicly identified in its own materials.
Sylphar is based in Deurle, Belgium, where the company says all research and development takes place "in regulated, high quality surroundings" at its headquarters [4]. The firm has described an aim of releasing three new products or line additions each year to support its growth.
Ownership
iWhite's parent, Sylphar International NV, was acquired by Karo Pharma for EUR 290 million, with the transaction completed in January 2022 [6]. The buyer characterised Sylphar as a "digital-first" Belgian company that grows and internationalises consumer-health and beauty brands sold mainly through online marketplaces, web shops and e-pharmacies. Through the same deal, Karo took over Sylphar's other brands, including Remescar, Nutravita and Alpha Foods [6].
Philosophy & positioning
iWhite positions itself around accessible, at-home whitening. The company says its focus is on "innovative, consumer-friendly products" that stand out through their application methods [4]. On its Swedish site the brand uses the tagline "iWhite är din dagliga anledning att le" — iWhite is your daily reason to smile. The product range is sold through Swedish pharmacies such as Apoteket, Kronans Apotek, Meds and Doz Apotek, alongside other retail and online outlets. By the brand's own account, iWhite is available in "almost fifty countries"; an editorial review likewise describes it as sold in more than 50 countries [5].
Products & technology
The iWhite range centres on instant-whitening kits supplied as soft mouth trays pre-filled with gel, with several variants including Classic, Superior, Glow and Dark Stains. It is complemented by dissolving whitening strips, whitening mouthwash, an interdental whitener and a line of toothpastes [5].
The brand's whitening approach is built on two named technologies. FCC, which it renders as Film-Crystallised Calcium, consists of small white bioactive crystals combined with a film-forming polymer that adhere to the tooth surface for an optical whitening effect. The second is P.A.P. (phthalimidoperoxycaproic acid), which the company describes as a stain-removal molecule that breaks down discolouration without affecting tooth structure. iWhite states that its products are free of hydrogen peroxide, clinically tested and tooth-friendly, reporting no gum problems or sensitivity after treatment [3].
iWhite's marketing makes specific performance claims, including an average improvement of 4.8 shades and "up to 8 shades" whiter after a single 20-minute treatment [3]. These claims have been questioned. In a review of the kits, the dental-information site Dentaly cited a 2017 study which found that only about 5% of users reached the advertised eight-shade improvement, while roughly 50% averaged two shades and 15% improved by one shade [5]. The same review concluded that the kits "do give some degree of instant whitening" but that few users would achieve eight shades, and rated the kit contents poorly, citing disposable trays, the absence of refills and user reports of dried-out gel on arrival [5].
Current status
iWhite remains an actively sold brand, now operating under Karo Healthcare following the January 2022 acquisition of its parent, Sylphar International NV [6]. As of 2026 it maintains a current product range and distribution through Nordic pharmacies and online channels.
