Summary

Overview

Mamonde is a South Korean skincare and cosmetics brand launched by Amorepacific in 1991 [5]. Built around flower-derived ingredients, it sits in the accessible end of the Korean beauty market and is sold across Asia, North America and, through retail import, parts of the Nordic region. Its name comes from the French Ma Monde, blending the words for "my" and "world" [5].

The brand operates as part of Amorepacific Corporation, the same Seoul-based parent that owns Laneige, Sulwhasoo, Innisfree and ETUDE [2]. After more than three decades of selling floral skincare, Mamonde carried out a wide visual rebrand in 2024 and repositioned itself around a proprietary formulation approach it calls Hyper Flora.

Origin and ownership

Mamonde was not a founder-led venture but an in-house Amorepacific launch, and no individual founder is recorded for it. The company is headquartered in Seoul, South Korea [5]. From the outset the brand tied its identity to flowers, framing botanical extracts as the core of its skincare.

Within the Amorepacific portfolio, Mamonde shares ownership with a range of sister brands including Laneige, Sulwhasoo, Innisfree, ETUDE, RYO and AESTURA. It is positioned at a more affordable price point than the group's prestige labels such as Sulwhasoo.

History and expansion

After its 1991 debut in South Korea, Mamonde grew steadily across Asian markets through the 2000s and 2010s. It entered China in 2005, and by July 2013 its products were sold at around 900 department stores and more than 2,500 cosmetics stores across 270 Chinese cities [5]. The same year it opened a flagship store in Seoul's Myeong-dong district and expanded into Thailand.

International growth continued with the brand's first United States store in 2015, followed by entry into Malaysia in 2016 and Singapore in 2017 [5]. From its launch the brand leaned heavily on Korean celebrity endorsement: the actress Lee Young-ae became its first ambassador in 1991 [5], with later faces including Han Ga-in, Han Ji-min, Park Shin-hye, and Choi Siwon, described as the brand's first male endorser.

Philosophy and positioning

Mamonde frames its work as a meeting point between flowers and clinical skincare. The company says it brings together "the power of flowers and the science of skincare," combining floral actives with advanced ingredients to create what it describes as a transforming synergy in the skin. Its stated mission emphasises inclusivity, with the brand saying it aims to "break the boundaries of beauty" and let everyone "bloom in their own unique way."

According to Amorepacific, the brand "creates individual beauty based on borderless innovation." Its tagline, "A beauty true to yourself, blossoming with Hyper Flora," ties this positioning to its signature technology.

Products and innovation

The brand's central technology is Hyper Flora, which Amorepacific describes as a skincare solution built by combining actives discovered in flowers with boosting ingredients to derive synergy in the skin [4]. This sits behind product lines organised around individual flowers and their paired actives.

Hero ingredients run across the range: rose appears in the Flora Glow line alongside rose peptides; blue-chamomile-derived azulene is paired with niacinamide in the Calming Shot line; hibiscus is combined with a ceramide complex; camellia is matched with glutathione in the brand's age-control products; and mint is used with BHA for sebum and pore care [6]. Signature products include the Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask, the Amazing Deep Mint Cleansing Balm, the Calming Shot Azulene Ampoule and the Pore Shrinker Bakuchiol Cream.

Among its longest-running products is the Rose Water Toner. K-beauty editorial coverage describes it as the iconic anchor of Mamonde's flower-toner range [6], using roses to soothe and hydrate the skin.

Current status

Mamonde remains an active brand under Amorepacific. Its most recent notable development came in 2024, when it underwent a full visual rebrand and shifted its marketing away from "simple rose water" toward the Hyper Flora technology, aiming at what one editorial called a more ingredient-conscious audience [6]. In the same period, Amorepacific launched a Daiso-exclusive Mamonde sub-brand aimed at Gen Z and Gen Alpha shoppers [7]. The brand maintains official accounts on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Facebook.
