Summary

Overview

minLen is a natural skincare line conceived in Sweden and developed jointly by Madeleine Bernadotte and the Swiss natural-cosmetics company Weleda. Built around gentle, plant-based formulations for young skin and the wider family, it launched commercially in September 2025 across Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Sweden [6]. The brand is positioned as a deliberate counterweight to the trend of children and teenagers using strong active ingredients meant for adult skin.

Madeleine Bernadotte is Princess Madeleine of Sweden, who operates in the venture under her private surname rather than her royal title, keeping it a personal commercial project separate from her court duties. She is the brand's co-developer and public face; Weleda formulates, manufactures and distributes the products, making it the legal owner of the line [7].

Origin and name

The line grew out of Bernadotte's experience as a mother of three. According to the company, she noticed that interest in skincare was starting at a very young age, with children and teenagers reaching for products containing retinol, acids and high-dose vitamins that are unsuitable for young skin. Wanting a gentler, age-appropriate alternative, she approached Weleda, whose long history in natural cosmetics aligned with that aim. The two sides began working together in January 2024.

The name is a piece of Swedish wordplay: "min" (my) and "len" (soft). "Len" is also Bernadotte's family nickname, so the name reads at once as a description of the soft skincare promise and as a personal reference to its co-founder [6].

History and launch

minLen was revealed publicly in Düsseldorf on 28 March 2025 [6], ahead of a commercial launch the following September. The initial release comprised eleven products spanning face care, body care and a fragrance-free baby range, sold first in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Sweden. A Swedish launch event was held on 13 September 2025 at the Stockholm flagship store of the beauty retailer Lyko, attended by Bernadotte in person [8]. The company has said a sunscreen range is planned for the 2026 season.

Ownership

The line sits within the portfolio of Weleda AG, a Swiss company headquartered in Arlesheim. Weleda dates its own founding to 1921, when the physician Ita Wegman, the philosopher Rudolf Steiner and the chemist Oskar Schmiedel established it around a laboratory, a medicinal-plant garden and a hospital [3]. The company was formally registered under the name Weleda AG on 10 December 1928, a legal milestone that postdates the 1921 date Weleda itself uses publicly [9]. Weleda's products are rooted in anthroposophy, the holistic philosophy developed by Steiner, and it cultivates many ingredients using biodynamic methods.

Philosophy and positioning

minLen presents itself as natural, gentle and dermatologically tested skincare intended to build healthy routines from infancy into adulthood without what the brand calls aggressive actives such as retinol or acids. Its hero ingredients — sea buckthorn, wild blueberry and flax — are drawn from Scandinavian nature, and its product names are playful English coinages such as Hydramazing Barrier Face Cream, Liptastic Balm and Bubbles & Puddles Baby Shampoo & Body Wash, chosen to feel approachable for families.

Industry coverage framed the brand explicitly against the so-called "Sephora Kids" phenomenon, in which young consumers buy products containing AHAs, BHAs and vitamins A and C that are ill-suited to their age [7]. Weleda's chief executive, Tina Müller, described minLen as aligned with the company's mission of providing gentle, effective and certified natural skincare [7]. On its Swedish pages, the company describes minLen as the first natural, responsible and multi-generational skincare brand in Europe [2].

Products and certifications

The launch range covers face products (including a barrier cream, a foam face wash and a serum), body care, a lip balm and a dedicated baby line of fragrance-free washes, oils and lotions. minLen products are described as dermatologically tested. As part of Weleda's wider portfolio, the line falls under the parent company's certifications, which include NATRUE natural-cosmetics certification, B Corp status and UEBT "Sourcing with Respect" verification. Weleda states that more than 80 percent of its raw materials come from certified organic agriculture and that its products are free from microplastics, GMOs and mineral-oil ingredients.

Controversies

The controversies attached to minLen are inherited from its parent company rather than the line itself. Wikipedia documents a 1943 incident in which Weleda supplied frostbite cream to a Nazi doctor conducting unethical experiments; the company later apologised and commissioned historical research through the University of Basel [9]. Separately, anthroposophic medicine, the tradition from which Weleda emerged, is described by mainstream science as pseudoscience [9]. minLen is presented as dermatologically tested natural cosmetics rather than anthroposophic medicine, which sets it somewhat apart from that critique.

Current status

minLen is an active brand. As of 2026 it is sold through Weleda's own channels alongside perfumeries, department stores, selected e-commerce platforms and, in Sweden, pharmacies, with its full range listed on Weleda's Swedish site and a sunscreen extension announced for 2026.
