Oatcare

Oatcare is a Finnish skincare brand consisting of a single product: a fragrance-free base cream built around colloidal oat. It is made and sold by Orion Pharma, the consumer self-care division of the Finnish pharmaceutical company Orion Oyj, and reached Finnish pharmacy shelves in October 2025 [1]. The cream is positioned as an everyday moisturiser for sensitive, dry and redness-prone skin, suitable for the whole family.

Oatcare began as a development project inside Orion Pharma. According to the company, the first test batch was made in December 2022 by development manager Maarit Päällysaho, and the finished cream did not reach pharmacies until October 2025 [1]. The packet treats the 2025 launch as the brand's founding year, with the 2022 test batch recorded as an earlier milestone rather than a separate founding date.

A central aim of the development work was a prebiotic base cream — one designed, in the company's words, to "promote good bacteria and inhibit bad bacteria on the skin" [1]. The active ingredient is colloidal oat grown in Jalasjärvi, Finland, and the cream is manufactured at Orion's factory in Turku.

Oatcare's manufacturer and marketing authorisation holder is Orion Oyj, trading in its pharmaceutical business as Orion Pharma [3]. Orion is one of Finland's largest pharmaceutical companies, founded in 1917 in Helsinki by three pharmacists and headquartered in Espoo [4][6]. Its main business is human and veterinary medicines and active pharmaceutical ingredients, with consumer self-care products forming a smaller division [2]. Within that division, Oatcare sits alongside a broader range of Orion base creams, including the Aqualan and Probicare lines.

The brand's only product is Oatcare base cream, sold in a 200-gram tube. Its declared active is colloidal oat (listed as Avena Sativa kernel flour), supported by glycerin, xylitol and shea butter; the formula also contains canola oil and a standard set of emulsifiers [3]. Orion states that the cream is fragrance-free and vegan, and describes it as suitable for the whole family.

The company attributes the cream's skin benefits to specific oat components. It says beta-glucans moisturise deeply and form a protective film that limits moisture loss, and that avenanthramides — antioxidants found only in oats — help calm redness and irritated skin. The brand material also notes that colloidal oat has been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration for skincare use and studied for inflammatory skin conditions since the 1930s [1].

Oatcare is presented as an everyday product for Finnish households "from baby to grandparent", with particular relevance for reactive skin that flushes or irritates easily, and for atopic skin when it is not under medical treatment [1]. The brand is active. Its last recorded public activity is the October 2025 pharmacy launch, and Orion still listed it as a new product on its base-cream category page in 2026 [5]. As a single-product line backed by a large pharmaceutical parent but sold only in Finland, Oatcare is clearly established but limited in scope.
