Overview
Pantheon Roma is an Italian niche fragrance house that builds its perfumes around a single Renaissance story: the love between the painter Raffaello Sanzio (Raphael) and Margherita, the daughter of a Trastevere baker. It was founded by Paolo Fadelli, a fragrance curator with more than thirty years in the field, together with his son Leone Fadelli, and it presented its first perfumes at the Esxence trade fair in Milan in 2013 [7]. The house operates under the family company JOY S.p.A. and is based in Pergola, in the Marche region of Italy.
Despite a name and imagery that evoke ancient Rome, the house is a modern one. Its first fragrances appeared in 2013, and its first physical boutique opened in Rome in 2022 [3].
Origin and founders
Pantheon Roma stems from what the company describes as long experience "at the highest levels in the world of Italian and international Art Perfumery," gained by Paolo Fadelli and his son Leone. Paolo Fadelli is credited with over thirty years in prestige fragrance; Leone Fadelli holds a degree in economics and marketing, with a thesis on artistic perfumery.
The brand's founding narrative is drawn from the Italian Renaissance. According to the house, the project took shape around "concepts of the Italian Renaissance" where "Art and Culture, Beauty and Love meet," and it frames its founding aim simply as telling a Renaissance love story through perfumes. That story centres on Raphael and Margherita — a relationship the brand presents as forbidden and set against the social rules of the time — and extends to Raphael's burial in the Pantheon in Rome, a distinction the house notes was granted to no other artist [5].
History and milestones
The house made its debut at Esxence 2013, where it showed its first four fragrances: Donna Margherita, Il Giardino, Notte d'Amore and Raffaello. In the years that followed it continued to present work at Italian industry events, including Pitti Fragranze.
In 2022 the company opened its first boutique, on Via Vittoria in central Rome near Piazza di Spagna, dedicating the space to a fragrance named for that year, MMXXII. The house describes Via Vittoria as a reference point for admirers of artistic perfumery and the boutique as a small experiential setting in the city that inspires its scents.
The two dates are sometimes conflated. Fragrantica records the house's earliest edition as 2013, reflecting the Esxence debut, which is the basis for treating 2013 as the founding year [7]; the brand's own boutique page dates the 2022 opening, which marks the first retail location rather than the founding of the house [3].
Ownership
Pantheon Roma is owned by JOY S.p.A., a family business the company calls "the beating heart of the brand" [2]. JOY S.p.A. is registered at Via del Lavoro in Pergola, in the province of Pesaro and Urbino, which serves as the corporate headquarters; the Rome boutique on Via Vittoria functions as the brand's flagship and public home rather than its legal seat [3]. The same company also owns the fragrance line Profumi di Polignano.
Philosophy and positioning
The house positions itself within artistic perfumery and frames scent as a form of storytelling — its tagline is "A story told with perfumes." It says its work rests on "a constant dialogue with the most sensitive master perfumers," a "tireless search for rare and precious raw materials," and a wish to connect smell to memory and emotion [2]. Attention to detail, from packaging to production, is a recurring theme in how the company describes itself.
Fragrances are sold in 100 ml bottles, and the house offers smaller discovery kits for sampling.
Products and innovation
Pantheon Roma organises its catalogue into three lines. The Classic Collection holds the core scents, among them Raffaello, Donna Margherita, Trastevere, Il Giardino, Notte d'Amore, Anniversario, Annone and Nerone. A Special Collection groups single-letter fragrances — R, O, M and A — sold individually and as a boxed "Collezione ROMA" set. An Exclusive Collection covers limited releases, including MMXXII, MMXXIV, and editions made for specific retailers such as K for Harrods.
Donna Margherita, one of the debut scents, was launched in 2013 with Arturetto Landi as its perfumer [9]. Landi, described by the house as a close collaborator, is named on its About page as central to its creations; editorial coverage also credits the perfumer Chris Maurice as working on the line [7]. Beyond perfumes, the range includes body products such as a ritual set tied to the Annone fragrance.
Recognition and press
The house has been covered by the perfumery publication Fragrantica, which profiled it as a new niche house from Italy and has continued to report its releases [8]. It has also been the subject of a dedicated feature in Georgia Today, headlined "Pantheon Roma – an Italian Perfume Brand, Founded in Rome" [10].
Current status
Pantheon Roma is active. It continues to release new fragrances — with editions dated as recently as 2025 and 2026 — and operates its Rome boutique alongside distribution through niche retailers, including Jovoy Paris in France and ParfuMaria in the Netherlands [11].
