Summary

Overview

Rosenserien is a Swedish organic skincare brand founded in 1984 [3] and made for the whole family. It is produced by RS Biokosmetik AB, a family-owned company now run by second-generation leadership, and its range covers around 35 products for the face, body and hair. The line is built around natural and certified-organic ingredients, with essential rose oil giving the brand both its name and a recurring theme across its formulas.

The company describes itself as a small-scale Swedish producer aimed at people who want to care for their skin while taking environmental responsibility. It remains active, celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2024 and continuing to enter and win organic-beauty award programmes into 2025.

Origin and founders

The brand grew out of a personal problem. Co-founder Laine Nilsson worked as a hairdresser and found that her skin reacted badly to the strong perm and dyeing chemicals she handled daily. After looking into the ingredients she was exposed to and the toxic substances they contained, she and her friend Agneta Törnqvist set out to make a natural alternative. In the early 1980s the pair approached chemists working in the field, and by 1984 the first Rosenserien products were on sale [3].

Early distribution was modest, beginning with home sales and skincare salons before expanding into health food stores. That salon-and-specialist route still shapes how the brand reaches customers today.

Ownership

Rosenserien is manufactured by RS Biokosmetik AB, based in Valdemarsvik, Sweden. The company is now controlled by Laine Nilsson's daughter, Carina Swartz [1], who runs it together with her husband, keeping the business in family hands across a second generation.

RS Biokosmetik also produces a second, export-oriented line called Sweden Eco. According to UK trade coverage, that range was developed in collaboration with the dancer and choreographer Tony Irving, who took part in decisions on function, fragrance, appearance and packaging [9].

The brand's headquarters are recorded as Valdemarsvik on its own site, with the registered company address at Hagadalsgatan 6 [2]; a separate scope note associated the brand with Stockholm, but the brand's own registration and its production sites in Valdemarsvik and Föllinge place its base in Valdemarsvik.

Philosophy and positioning

Rosenserien positions itself as skincare of 100 percent natural origin with a high proportion of organic content. The company says it uses only ingredients that serve a function in a formula, with no filler material, and favours what it calls cell-activating raw materials. Products contain no added water; the base is a fair-trade-certified aloe vera gel rather than water.

Rose oil sits at the centre of the brand's story. The company notes that it takes 5,000 kilos of roses to produce a single litre of rose oil [4], and it presents the ingredient as suited especially to sensitive and mature skin. Preservation is handled without synthetic preservatives, using vitamins C and E together with natural salts derived from rice and basil [4].

Products and innovation

The Rosenserien range spans cleansing, moisturising, targeted care and body products, alongside a set of professional salon products. Recurring hero ingredients include rose oil from Rosa Damascena, sea buckthorn, argan oil, hyaluronic acid, vitamin C and rose root (Rhodiola Rosea). For sun care the brand states that it relies on physical UV filters, using titanium dioxide without nanoparticles rather than chemical sunscreens.

Among its signature items are the Rose Cream Anti Wrinkle, an organic anti-ageing moisturiser the company says contains parakress (Acmella oleracea) for its documented effect against wrinkle formation [2], and the alcohol-free Rose Water facial toner. Other frequently cited products include a vegetable soap and a carotene sunscreen.

Sustainability

Environmental claims run throughout the brand's own material. Rosenserien states that its products are made from 100 percent natural raw materials and that most of the content is organically certified, citing figures such as 98 percent organic certification for its carrot oil. The company says it has never tested on animals, in Sweden or abroad [4], and that all products are vegan, carrying Djurens Rätt's "I'm Vegan" label.

Production is small-scale and Swedish, split between Valdemarsvik and Föllinge in Jämtland. On packaging, the brand says its containers are recyclable and made from recycled plastic collected from the oceans. Its press materials display an Ecocert organic certification mark [8], alongside Fair for Life and vegan labels.

Recognition

Rosenserien has been recognised in Swedish and international award programmes. It won the Guldapple (Golden Apple) award in 2012 [8], and the business trade magazine Veckans affärer named it one of Sweden's "superföretag" (super companies) for 2010–2011. In 2022, RS Biokosmetik AB was named "Länets Företagare" (County Business of the Year) in Östergötland [3].

More recently, at the Organic Beauty Awards 2024, the Rose Cream Anti Wrinkle won in the budget day-cream category and the Vegetable Soap was named Best Shower Cream, as reported by the Swedish editorial site The Waves We Make [10]. UK PR coverage has also described the brand as "award winning" and recognised through The Beauty Shortlist awards [9].

Current status

Rosenserien remains active. It is a family-owned Swedish brand operating under second-generation leadership, distributed primarily within Sweden through therapists, beauticians, health food stores and spas [1], with some international reach through resellers and its Sweden Eco export range. The brand marked its 40th anniversary in 2024 and its website continued to report award wins into 2025, including entries in the Organic Beauty Awards and Global Green Beauty Awards.
