Overview
Christian Audigier is an American fashion and fragrance label named after the French designer Christian Audigier (1958–2015), who became one of the defining figures of early-2000s celebrity streetwear. The brand grew out of the Y2K-era graphic-apparel scene that Audigier helped popularise, first through Von Dutch and then through the Ed Hardy clothing line, and later extended into a range of perfumes sold under both the Ed Hardy and Christian Audigier names.
The label has a split present-day identity. Its apparel arm was relaunched in November 2025 by Audigier Brand Management Group, LLC, which manages the Christian Audigier intellectual property [5]. The fragrance side, by contrast, appears dormant: no new scents have been documented since 2014, though existing perfumes continue to be sold through third-party perfumeries, which is how the brand still reaches markets such as Sweden.

Origin & founders
The brand is inseparable from its namesake. Christian Audigier was born on 21 May 1958 in Avignon, France, and entered the fashion industry as a teenager designing rock-inspired denim. Before building his own labels he worked with established houses including Guess, Levi's, Diesel and Fiorucci, moving from New York to Los Angeles, where he found his greatest commercial success.
Audigier first reached a mass audience by reviving the trucker-cap brand Von Dutch, which gained heavy celebrity exposure in the early 2000s. In 2004 he launched the Ed Hardy clothing label, licensing the tattoo artwork of San Francisco artist Don Ed Hardy and applying it across a sprawling product line [4]. The eponymous Christian Audigier line emerged in the same period. Sources place its beginnings around 2005, though the date is uncertain: Wikipedia's account centres on the 2004 Ed Hardy launch, while fragrance databases tie the Christian Audigier name most clearly to the 2009 perfume line, leaving the brand's precise founding year unsettled [3][7].
History & milestones
After leaving Von Dutch on what was described as amicable terms in 2007, Audigier concentrated on Ed Hardy and on extending his brands into fragrance. The first perfumes, Ed Hardy for Women and Ed Hardy for Men, launched in 2008, followed in 2009 by a pair of scents carrying Audigier's own name [7].
In 2011 Audigier sold the Ed Hardy brand to the New York–based Iconix Brand Group for $62 million [4]. The last documented fragrance under his umbrella, Ed Hardy Love Is..., appeared in 2014. Audigier died on 9–10 July 2015 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, aged 57, from myelodysplastic syndrome, a blood cancer [3]. A decade later, in November 2025, the apparel brand was relaunched as a Y2K-nostalgia capsule of hats, tees and hoodies [5].
Ownership
The Christian Audigier name is held and managed by Audigier Brand Management Group, LLC. According to records cited by Trademarkia, the company controls 54 trademarks tied to the Christian Audigier intellectual property [8]. The 2025 relaunch is led by Neil Goodman, described in trade coverage as the brand's principal and head of sales. The Ed Hardy brand, by contrast, has been outside Audigier's ownership since the 2011 sale to Iconix.
Products & innovation
The label spans two main categories: fragrance and graphic apparel. On the fragrance side, the Ed Hardy and Christian Audigier perfumes — among them Ed Hardy for Women and Ed Hardy for Men (2008), the eponymous Christian Audigier scents (2009), Ed Hardy Hearts & Daggers (2009) and Ed Hardy Love Is... (2014) — were developed with perfumers including Calice Becker, Olivier Gillotin and Caroline Sabas. The debut Ed Hardy women's scent was a fruity floral built on apple, mango, strawberry and amber notes.
The apparel relaunched in 2025 returns to the brand's original visual language: trucker hats, rhinestone-print T-shirts and graphic hoodies carrying motifs such as "Skull & Wings" and "Heart Breaker." Trade coverage describes the capsule as reintroducing Audigier's signature motifs in updated fits and premium fabrics.
Philosophy & positioning
The brand is built around bold, ornamental graphics and a tie to celebrity culture. In announcing the relaunch, principal Neil Goodman described Audigier as "a pioneer in blending pop culture, streetwear, and celebrity style," framing the new collection as one that honours the brand's place in Hollywood and fashion history [5]. Its stated audience now spans returning customers nostalgic for the era and younger consumers drawn to the Y2K aesthetic.
Recognition
Much of the brand's visibility came through the famous people who wore it. During Audigier's Von Dutch period the caps were associated with Madonna, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, and the Christian Audigier and Ed Hardy lines drew a roster of celebrity fans including Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Pamela Anderson, Snoop Dogg, Michael Jackson and David Beckham [5]. Audigier's death was covered by outlets including TIME, Fashionista and California Apparel News, the last of which recalled a colleague's description of him as "the de facto Elvis of sportswear on the West Coast" [4].
Current status
The Christian Audigier apparel brand is active. Following its November 2025 relaunch it operates a working e-commerce storefront under Audigier Brand Management Group, LLC, with current inventory and active social channels [5]. The fragrance category, however, is effectively dormant: no new launches have been recorded since 2014, predating the founder's death, and the existing perfumes remain in circulation only through third-party retailers such as Ubuy, FragranceNet and others.
