Overview
Le Persona is a South Korean niche fragrance house founded in Seoul in 2022 [6]. Built around the idea of the persona — the mask worn by actors in ancient Greek theatre — the brand frames each scent as a different mask that brings out a hidden side of the wearer rather than concealing it. Its founder and owner is Kay Kwon, and the company is registered in the Gangnam district of Seoul.
The house belongs to the wave of Korean niche perfumers that emerged in the early 2020s, a market better known abroad for skincare and pop culture than for fragrance. Le Persona has built its debut and follow-up collections with established international perfumers and a French design studio, and as of 2025 it was actively releasing new scents and expanding its retail footprint beyond Korea.
Origin and concept
The brand takes its name and its central metaphor from the masks of ancient Greek theatre, which actors wore to express the personalities of the characters they played; those masks were called personae. Le Persona inverts the usual reading of a mask: "Masks exist to reveal, not to hide," runs the company's tagline, and it describes a scent as something that can be changed as easily as a mask to reveal a different facet of the self.
Le Persona presents fragrance as a vehicle for storytelling. The company says it is "a unique fragrance brand that conveys unique stories," with each scent carrying the narrative of a different persona, and states an aim to "gradually expand the realm of stories that many people around the world can relate to." Image timestamps on the brand's content date its online launch assets to April 2022, consistent with the year of founding.
Products
The debut collection comprised four eaux de parfum, sold in 50 ml bottles: LP01 Mystic Rose, LP02 Peacock Feather, LP03 Wooden Face and LP04 Golden Gem. The compositions span a rose-and-incense signature in Mystic Rose, a citrus profile in Peacock Feather, a woody-creamy sandalwood and fig accord in Wooden Face, and a warmer woody scent in Golden Gem, described by the brand's US retailer as the bestseller of the line [9]. The range also extends to smaller 10 ml formats, discovery sets, room diffusers and hand creams in matching scents.
In 2025 the house began releasing a second collection, this time as extrait de parfum, a higher concentration. The first two scents, Masquerade Ball and Whispering Kiss, reached the market that year, with two further fragrances slated for 2026 [6]. Trade press reported the second-collection launch price at €138 for 50 ml [6].
Reviewing the debut line, the fragrance database Fragrantica characterised the scents as "delicate but not underpowered" and placed the brand "on the relatively affordable end of the spectrum" for niche perfumery, calling it "proper perfumery at a not-completely-ridiculous price" [5].
Perfumers and design
Le Persona developed its first four scents with three perfumers: Frank Voelkl, Alain Allione, and a perfumer the brand's own site lists as Emilie Coppermann [2]. Fragrantica records the same perfumer under her fuller professional name, Emilie Bevierre-Coppermann [5]; both refer to the same person. Voelkl is known for Le Labo's Santal 33, and the trio have collectively worked with houses including Le Labo and Amouage [5].
Sources differ on how the perfumers' supplier-side affiliations are described. The trade publication Formes de Luxe reports that the scents were developed with perfumers from the fragrance houses Firmenich and Symrise [6]; the brand's own site names the perfumers individually without stating any house affiliation [2].
The visual identity and packaging come from Calicot Paris, a French studio founded by art directors and illustrators Amandine Delaunay and Richard Hello, which the brand notes has worked with companies such as Louis Vuitton and Moët Hennessy. The first collection carries illustrations on the bottle labels, while the second collection's decoration is screen-printed on the back of the bottle [6].
Positioning and reception
Le Persona positions itself as a narrative-driven house in which creative direction, design and storytelling are treated as inseparable from the perfume. Editorial coverage has echoed that framing: Plezuro Mag described it as "one of the most artistically daring fragrance houses in Korea today," noting that its philosophy "revolves around identity, each scent representing an emotion or facet of the self," and characterised it as a brand "for the introspective wearer who sees fragrance as an extension of inner life" [8].
The brand has appeared in several roundups of Korean niche perfumery, including Refinery29's "8 Korean Fragrance Brands Worth Knowing" and a stand-alone overview on Fragrantica. In 2025 Le Persona was one of eleven Korean houses featured in Korea Perfume, a collective curated to introduce emerging Korean perfumers to the European market through an event in Paris [6].
Distribution
Le Persona sells through its own online store and a small set of physical stockists in South Korea, including outlets within the ANANTI group in Seoul and Busan, Perfumegraphy in Seoul, and a Galleria gift shop in Seoul. Outside Korea, its full range is carried in the United States by the SoHo retail platform Flying Solo in New York. According to Formes de Luxe, the brand was also preparing to launch in Italy [6].
Current status
Le Persona is an active brand. It was founded in 2022 and, as of 2025, was continuing to release new fragrances — the ongoing second collection, with further scents planned for 2026 — while expanding its retail presence across Korea, the United States and, by its own account, into Italy.
