Overview
R+Co Bleu is an American haircare line positioned as the couture, luxury-tier sister brand to R+Co. It launched at the end of 2020 [9] and is owned by Luxury Brand Partners (LBP), the company behind R+Co [1]. The line was built around the long career of hairstylist Garren, a co-founder of the parent R+Co brand, and pairs treatment-focused formulas with packaging the company describes as fully recyclable.
The brand's own material sums up its aim in a single phrase, "Sustainable Luxury. Consciously Created.", framing high performance and environmental packaging as a combined proposition rather than a trade-off.
Origin & founders
R+Co Bleu grew out of R+Co, the professional haircare brand founded in 2014 by hairstylists Howard McLaren, Garren, and Thom Priano [11]. Because R+Co Bleu is a later line rather than a separate company, its own starting point is dated to its 2020 launch [9], while the 2014 date belongs to the parent brand — the two years describe different things rather than a disputed founding.
The Bleu line is closely tied to Garren, whose roughly five-decade career in editorial and salon hairstyling was cited as its creative reference point. Trade coverage described the result as "the couture version of R+Co," inspired by Garren's work and developed with input from R+Co's wider group of stylists and colorists [8]. According to the parent company, R+Co operates as a collective of editorial and salon professionals rather than a single-founder house.
History & milestones
R+Co was established in 2014 [11]. Six years later, R+Co Bleu was introduced as its luxury tier: after a salon pre-order phase in mid-2020, the collection went on general sale on December 3, 2020, opening with 21 products priced roughly between $52 and $77 [10]. At launch the assortment was organised into four colour-coded families — Essentials, Color, Repair & Moisture, and Volume — a structure the brand has continued to use.
The launch drew notice in the beauty trade press. WWD reported a projected first-year retail figure of about $50 million and framed the line as an attempt to open a luxury, sustainability-led space within professional haircare [7].
Ownership
R+Co Bleu is owned by Luxury Brand Partners, a company operating since 2012 whose founder and chief executive is Tev Finger [10]; Dan Langer is president of R+Co. Within the LBP portfolio, R+Co Bleu sits alongside its parent R+Co and other beauty brands including IGK and ONE/SIZE by Patrick Starrr.
Finger publicly framed the new line against its parent using an automotive comparison, calling it "a Rolls Royce answer to R+Co's Mercedes or BMW" [10] — shorthand for a step up in price and positioning from an already professional range.
Philosophy & positioning
R+Co Bleu presents itself as sustainable luxury haircare, described on its site as "Groundbreaking, Sustainable, Luxury Haircare" and organised around the values "Innovation. Modernity. Sustainability. Style." [1]. The company positions the range for customers who, in its words, do not "want to compromise" — an argument that performance and environmental packaging can sit together in one product.
Where the parent R+Co casts itself broadly as a collective of "rule-bending" stylists, the Bleu line is pitched a tier above it: treatment-led, higher-priced, and sold through a narrower, more prestige-oriented set of channels. Its stated distribution at launch centred on Neiman Marcus, the brand's own site, and prestige salons, in contrast to R+Co's wider salon reach.
Products & innovation
The R+Co Bleu range spans shampoos, conditioners, masks, serums, oils, and styling products, grouped into the four families set out at launch. Individual items include the De Luxe Reparative line, the Smooth & Seal Blow-Dry Mist, the Optical Illusion Smoothing Oil, and, at the top of the range, the Sleep Masque Night Repair Serum.
Formulas are built around what the brand calls the BLEU Molecule Complex, presented as a strength-and-shine technology, together with micro-encapsulated sugar molecules said to release active ingredients over time to help restore the hair's outer layer [9]. The company states the products are vegan, gluten-free, and free of sulfates, parabens, petrolatum, and mineral oil, and that the line is certified cruelty-free under the Leaping Bunny program [4].
Sustainability
Environmental packaging is central to how R+Co Bleu describes itself. According to the brand, its bottles and jars are made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic that uses 88% less energy to produce, its tubes from bioresin sugarcane plastic, its canisters from recyclable aluminium, and its cartons from FSC-certified recycled paper; each product ships with a sheet of seed-embedded paper meant to be planted [9]. The company presents this recycled-and-recyclable approach as "a continuous cycle of sustainability."
The line also runs a partnership with One Tree Planted that, per the brand, includes an "R+Co BLEU Forest" planted in Australia to support koala habitat [9]. These claims are the company's own; no independent verification of the packaging or reforestation figures is included in the sources here.
Current status
R+Co Bleu is an active brand. Its products are sold as a current, priced catalogue on the parent R+Co website, and the line is listed among Nordic retailers. It remains a haircare-only range operating within the broader R+Co and Luxury Brand Partners business.
