Summary

Overview

Brisk is a German men's hair styling cream first sold in 1951 [3]. Marketed under the tagline "Die Männerpflege-marke. Seit 1951." (the men's care brand, since 1951), it is built around a single product — the Brisk Frisiercreme Super — and trades heavily on its post-war heritage. The brand is owned and operated by Lornamead GmbH of Hamburg, the German subsidiary of the Italian personal-care group Sodalis [5].

The cream remains in production and on sale through major German retailers and a handful of Nordic online stores, making Brisk an unusual survivor: a 1950s product still carried in everyday drugstores under largely its original recipe.

Origin

Brisk was launched in 1951 as a men's styling cream in a distinctive red tube [3][7]. Its founders are not documented; the original manufacturer was a German cosmetics company, though sources disagree on the name. German Wikipedia records the maker as Elida GmbH [7] — a name consistent with Elida, a historical Unilever subsidiary — while the brand's own history page spells it "Elisa GmbH" [4]. Glowpedia follows the Elida reading, since it aligns with the brand's later documented transfer out of Unilever ownership; the brand-site spelling appears to be an error.

According to the company, men have used the cream since its launch, and Brisk positions itself as a German traditional product with appeal across generations.

Ownership and history

Brisk has changed corporate hands several times. By the early 2000s the brand sat within Unilever; in 2004 the British manufacturer Lornamead acquired it [7]. Lornamead's own account describes the cream as leading "a shadowy existence" inside the company at that point, while still keeping a base of loyal buyers.

In 2013 Lornamead was absorbed by Meiyume, then part of the Hong Kong trading group Li & Fung [8]. The most recent change came on 31 December 2021, when the Italian group Sodalis acquired Lornamead's German business — including Brisk — from Meiyume [8]. Sodalis describes itself as a health, beauty and personal-care company of more than 25 years, and the deal marked its first German subsidiary [8]. Today the ultimate parent is Sodalis Group, with Lornamead GmbH in Hamburg as the direct corporate owner; sister brands within the group include Triple Dry, Rapid White, Deborah Milano and BioNike.

Products and positioning

Brisk's public catalogue centres on one item, the Brisk Frisiercreme Super, a 100 ml styling cream. The company describes it as giving men's hair "natural, invisible hold — without greasy shine, without streaks," and as easy to restyle and wash out. The formula is a matte, soft-creamy cream; German Wikipedia characterises its scent as "sweet-herbal" [7]. Its ingredient list is built on water, mineral oils (paraffinum liquidum and petrolatum) and fragrance, and includes parabens as preservatives.

The brand markets itself squarely at men, stating an ambition to become the number-one brand "ONLY FOR MEN" and signalling plans to extend its red-tube identity into further product categories, though no additional products are currently listed. The specialist grooming retailer PomadeShop frames Brisk as a product for men with fine to normal hair who want understated, low-shine styling.

In Germany the cream is sold through drugstore and grocery chains including dm, Rossmann, Budni, Kaufland, EDEKA, REWE and Müller, as well as Amazon. It also reaches Denmark, but only through independent online retailers rather than any direct Nordic operation; no Danish-localised brand site exists.

Recognition

Brisk's standing rests less on awards — none are documented — than on longevity. German Wikipedia notes that the product and its scent achieved cult status in post-war Germany [7]. After the brand Adrett was discontinued by Diplona in 2007, Brisk became, by that account, the only originally available German Frisiercreme from the 1950s still in production [7].

Current status

Brisk is active. Its website is current, and the Frisiercreme Super is stocked across German retail and several Danish online shops. The footprint is narrow, however: effectively a single product with a small marketing presence, maintained as a heritage line within Sodalis's German subsidiary rather than an actively expanding brand.
