Overview
Biretix is a Spanish skincare brand specialising in retinoid-based treatments for acne-prone skin. It is a sub-brand of Cantabria Labs, a dermatological pharmaceutical company based in Madrid, and is sold mainly through pharmacies and specialist skincare retailers rather than mass-market shops [1]. The range is built around acne care for teenagers and adults, pairing high-tolerance retinoids with antimicrobial and exfoliating actives.
The line is positioned as professional skincare backed by clinical testing. Cantabria Labs describes Biretix as "a specialist retinoid brand for caring for acne-prone skin," designed to minimise and prevent the characteristic signs of acne in young people and adults [1]. The brand remains active, with new products added to the range as recently as 2026 [1].
Origins and parent company
Biretix grew out of Cantabria Labs, a family-founded Spanish laboratory whose history dates to 1994, when the company acquired full ownership of Industrial Farmacéutica Cantabria [2]. The parent is best known for the oral sun-protection brand Heliocare, which it developed in the 1990s in collaboration with Harvard Medical School [2].
No public source records the year the Biretix line itself launched, and the brand does not publish a founding date. The foundational technology behind it, the RetinSphere retinoid patent, was acquired by Cantabria Labs in 2006 and is shared across several of its dermocosmetic lines, including Endocare and Neoretin [2]. An independent clinical trial published in 2017 confirms that a Biretix gel was already on the market and being studied by dermatologists in the mid-2010s [3].
Ownership
Biretix is wholly owned by Cantabria Labs, which renamed itself from Industrial Farmacéutica Cantabria in 2018 [2]. The company operates subsidiaries in Italy, France, Portugal, Mexico, Morocco, China and the United States, and reports a presence in more than 85 countries. Within the Cantabria Labs portfolio, Biretix sits alongside sister brands such as Heliocare, Endocare and Neoretin.
Philosophy and positioning
The brand frames its work around three stated pillars: effectiveness proven through clinical trials, expertise in handling retinoids as the lead acne-treatment active, and endorsement by skincare professionals [1]. Its stated aim is to reduce and prevent the visible signs of acne-prone skin without causing irritation, a balance the company attributes to its encapsulated-retinoid approach.
Commercially, Biretix is treated as professional rather than mass-market skincare. The specialist retailer Dermoi describes it as "dermatologist-tested" with products "backed by dermatological studies," and links its professional positioning to the Spanish pharmaceutical pedigree of its parent [4]. Distribution follows a pharmacy and specialist-retailer model rather than general retail.
Products and ingredients
The range is organised into three groups: treatment products, cleansers, and supportive or repair care. Its most prominent product is the Tri Active Gel, marketed for preventing and correcting pimples and acne marks, which the brand's own education material calls the hero product. Other items include a purifying Cleanser, the Hydramat mattifying line, the Duo Anti-Blemish Gel, and the Isorepair range aimed at skin sensitised by acne treatments. Two Isorepair products, a creamy cleanser and a lip balm, were marked as new on the official site in 2026 [1].
Two proprietary technologies anchor the formulas. RetinSphere is described as a dual-retinoid system that combines hydroxypinacolone retinoate and retinol in glycospheres, intended to speed skin renewal while limiting the irritation usually associated with retinoids. BIOPEP-15 is an antimicrobial peptide that, according to the brand, targets the bacteria involved in acne. These sit alongside more familiar actives: glycolic and salicylic acid for exfoliation, and niacinamide to help regulate oil.
Clinical evidence
Cantabria Labs publishes its own efficacy figures for the range, stating that the products reduce the number of blemishes by 80% and control excess sebum by 57%, based on a study of 207 subjects [1].
Biretix is unusual among pharmacy skincare brands in also having independent, peer-reviewed clinical evidence. A trial led by Vincenzo Bettoli at the University of Ferrara, published in the Giornale Italiano di Dermatologia e Venereologia in 2017, tested a Biretix gel as a year-long maintenance therapy for patients who had completed oral isotretinoin treatment for moderate acne. Of the 39 patients who completed the study, only 6 — about 15% — experienced a relapse, which the authors read as favourable evidence of the product's efficacy and safety in maintenance after isotretinoin [3].
Manufacturing
Biretix products are made within Cantabria Labs' manufacturing network in Spain. The company describes its La Concha production centre in Cantabria as an eco-sustainable facility that draws on a local mineral spring and uses geothermal energy from the spring to generate renewable power [5]. Biretix itself does not publish separate sustainability claims, certifications or product-level ethics labels.
Current status
Biretix is an active brand. New products continued to appear on the official Cantabria Labs site through 2026, and it is distributed across multiple markets in Europe and beyond, reaching Nordic customers chiefly through cross-border pharmacy and specialist channels.
