Summary

Overview

Endocare is a Spanish dermatological skincare brand owned by Cantabria Labs, a pharmaceutical and cosmetics company based in Madrid. It is built around a single discovery: a growth-factor complex drawn from the secretion of the garden snail Cryptomphalus aspersa, which the brand markets as the heritage active behind its anti-ageing range. Endocare positions itself at the meeting point of medical prescription and consumer skincare, and is distributed mainly through pharmacies and dermatology practices.

The brand remains active. Cantabria Labs maintains Endocare pages across several regional sites and continued to introduce new products through 2025, including a Renewal Retinoid Intensive Serum and matching eye treatment.

Origin and founders

Endocare traces back to clinical observation rather than a conventional brand launch. According to the company, the work began with Dr. Rafael Abad, a radiotherapist at the Hospital Ramón y Cajal in Madrid, who was treating patients with severe radiation burns. He noticed that secretion from the garden snail Cryptomphalus aspersa prompted unusually rapid regeneration of their damaged skin [3]. Cantabria Labs went on to patent the process of obtaining that secretion (US Patent 5538740) in the mid-1990s [8].

No individual is named as founder of the Endocare brand itself; Dr. Abad is credited with the underlying discovery, not with establishing the line, which was developed within Cantabria Labs.

Sources differ on exactly when the brand began. Several editorial and distributor pages describe Endocare as "researched and developed by Cantabria Labs since 1997" [12], and 1997 is the year most consistently cited as the start of brand development. Other accounts anchor the brand to the mid-1990s, tying it to the SCA patent rather than to a commercial debut [10]. The brand's own "20 years of innovation" messaging would point to a later mass-market launch, leaving the precise founding date softer than a single year suggests.

Ownership

Endocare is a brand of Cantabria Labs, previously known as Industrial Farmacéutica Cantabria (IFC). The company's own corporate history dates the modern business to 1994, when it acquired a 100% stake in IFC [2]; one editorial account instead places the laboratory's origins in 1989, a date that appears to refer to the earlier IFC operation rather than to Endocare [11]. The company describes its beginnings as a small family-run laboratory and is now headquartered in Madrid, having earlier been based in the Cantabria region.

Within the Cantabria Labs portfolio, Endocare sits alongside sister brands including Heliocare, Neoretin and Biretix.

History and milestones

After its 1990s origins, Endocare's development has tracked the technologies Cantabria Labs folded into the range. In 2006 the company acquired the RetinSphere retinoid patent and applied it to Endocare, and in 2017 it integrated its Edafence anti-pollution technology into both the Endocare and Neoretin lines [2]. In 2021 it launched Endocare Renewal, an intensive renewal range, followed in 2025 by the Renewal Retinoid Intensive Serum and a corresponding eye contour product.

Philosophy and positioning

Endocare presents itself as a science-led, dermatologist-backed brand whose central idea is "training" the skin to resist ageing through patented growth-factor and antioxidant technologies. Its Spanish brand page frames the proposition as "precision anti-ageing science for the health of your skin" and describes Endocare as a leader in medical prescriptions intended to prevent and reduce skin ageing. The brand's stated pillars are patented technologies, care based on the principle of training the skin, and formulations developed with doctors and experts.

Commercially, the brand is pitched at the prestige end of dermatological skincare and reaches consumers chiefly through pharmacies and aesthetic practitioners. Its intended audience, as described in editorial coverage, centres on mature and photo-damaged skin and on patients recovering from cosmetic procedures.

Products and innovation

The range is skincare-only, spanning serums, creams, eye treatments, cleansers and ampoules organised into lines such as Tensage, Age Barrier, Hydractive, Radiance and Renewal. Signature products include the Tensage Serum, built on the SCA biorepair complex, the Radiance C Ferulic Edafence Serum, and the dual-retinoid Renewal Retinoid Intensive Serum.

At the centre of the formulations is SCA Growth Factor Technology, the snail-secretion complex the company describes as packed with growth factors that activate dermal cells such as fibroblasts and, in its words, make them "behave like young cells again" [3]. Around it the brand has assembled a stack of proprietary technologies, among them RetinSphere and the newer RetinDuo retinoid systems, the Edafence anti-pollution complex, Wharton Gel Complex and AOX Technology. Endocare and its parent emphasise a clinical-evidence narrative, citing more than 17 scientific studies behind the SCA technology [3] and "30 studies on our patented technologies" across the range.
