Summary

Overview

ACM, which trades as Laboratoire Dermatologique ACM, is a French dermatological skincare company founded in 2001 [1]. It develops face, hair, body and sun-care products sold exclusively through pharmacies, and presents itself as a laboratory built around close work with dermatologists, biologists and chemists. Its catalogue spans treatment-oriented ranges for concerns such as hyperpigmentation, acne, hair loss and sensitive skin.

Since 2019 the company has been owned by the Spanish group Cantabria Labs, which acquired a majority stake [8]. ACM has continued to operate under its own name since the acquisition, releasing new products and drawing French press coverage as recently as 2026.

Origin and founders

ACM was created in 2001 to address the issues dermatologists are most often consulted about, with formulas the company describes as suitable for all skin types [1]. The names of its original founders are not recorded in the available sources. By the time of writing it reported 25 years of research activity and was led by Christelle Robert as chief executive.

Ownership

In 2019, Cantabria Labs — the Spanish company behind the Heliocare sun-protection brand — acquired a majority stake in ACM, a move it framed as its entry into the French market [8]. Sources differ on the exact timing: the acquisition has been dated to February 2019, while one distributor profile places it in 2018 [7], a discrepancy that most plausibly reflects the gap between announcement and closing. The year 2019 is the most consistently attested across sources.

Within the Cantabria Labs group, ACM sits alongside other dermatological and skincare brands including Heliocare, Endocare, Elancyl, Biretix and Neoretin. The acquisition did not fold ACM into the parent's identity; it has retained a standalone brand presence.

Philosophy and positioning

ACM positions itself around the idea that, in the company's words, "skin health is a universal right" [2], and markets what it calls a human-centred, accessible approach to dermatology. Its stated values are health, safety and proximity, summarised in the tagline "L'humain au coeur de la dermatologie" (the human at the heart of dermatology).

Distribution is central to that positioning. The company sells only through partner pharmacies rather than mass retail, describing the choice as a decision to work exclusively with pharmacists as trusted experts. It also claims to rank first in medical prescriptions in France for several of its lines, among them Dépiwhite, Azéane and Novophane [2].

Products and innovation

ACM's range is organised by skin concern across several named lines. Dépiwhite targets dark spots and hyperpigmentation; Azéane is built around 15% azelaic acid for blemishes, redness and uneven tone; Novophane addresses hair and nails; and Medisun+ covers sun protection. Other lines include Sébionex for acne-prone teenage skin, Vitix for vitiligo and depigmentation, and a baby range. Frequently cited active ingredients include azelaic acid, kojic acid, retinol, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and peptides.

The company emphasises in-house formulation technology and says it has filed more than five patents [1]. Among the proprietary complexes it names are an encapsulated form of tranexamic acid, branded [ATX], and a patented "acid phosphatase activator" intended to speed the natural breakdown of melanin. ACM states that its encapsulated tranexamic acid is "8x plus puissant" (eight times more powerful), citing a Franz cell penetration test that it reports showed 7.8 times more penetration after 16 hours [1]. For its Dépiwhite Advanced cream, a company-conducted study is reported to have found a statistically significant fall in melanin concentration after two months of daily use, with peak effect at three months [9].

ACM states that its products are made in France and notes that some of its packaging is recyclable.

Reach and recognition

ACM reports distribution in more than 90 countries [1]; a secondary retail source gives a lower figure of more than 80 [11]. Either way, the brand's reach extends well beyond France, with distributors operating in markets across Southeast Asia.

In France, several of its products have featured in consumer and women's media, including Grazia, Biba, Marie Claire and Elle. Its anti-spot cream was named "Meilleur Produit Pharma 2026" (best pharmacy product 2026) and reported by Marie-France as approved by dermatologists [5]. Some products have also gained traction on social media: according to a Gala feature, a Dépiwhite cream generated more than 1.9 million views in under 24 hours on TikTok [5], and the Azéane cream was described by Biba as a TikTok phenomenon.

Current status

ACM remains active as a brand under Cantabria Labs ownership. Its most recent visible activity dates to 2026, including the "Meilleur Produit Pharma 2026" award, continuing press coverage and new product launches such as the Medisun+ sun-protection stick. Although acquired in 2019, it continues to trade under its own name and identity.
