Summary

Overview

Novellista is an Italian niche fragrance brand based in Turin and owned by the beauty house GIVET SRL, which lists it as its flagship brand [5]. Its perfumes are built around literary storytelling: each scent is presented as inspired by a classic novel, and the line spans much of the fragrance wheel under the tagline "Write Your Own Story." The brand remains active, with a Black Edition range launched in 2025 [6].

Sources differ on when Novellista began. GIVET, which owns and operates the brand, dates the perfume line to 2022 [4], the year the parent company itself was founded. The fragrance database Fragrantica instead lists editions as early as 2020 [7]. The earlier dates may reflect formulations that predate the brand's consolidation under GIVET, or back-dating by the database; under GIVET's ownership the brand is documented from 2022.

Ownership

Novellista is owned by GIVET SRL, an Italian company that describes itself as a business-to-business "house of beauty brands" founded on 14 March 2022 [4]. Rather than operating as a manufacturer, GIVET says it builds and scales brands in-house — handling identity, design and marketing — while outsourcing formulation and production to a supplier network spanning more than a dozen countries. The group reports a portfolio of eight brands, among them the K-beauty line KORIKA, the makeup brand NOBEA, the haircare line Iconique Professional, and the skincare brands SKINSOO and Saffee [5]. Within that portfolio, Novellista is positioned as the fragrance flagship.

Novellista's own registered address is in Turin (Corso Vittorio Emanuele II), which the brand site gives as its headquarters. GIVET as a group has also been described as headquartered across Italy and the Czech Republic [7]; at the brand level, Novellista is an Italian house.

Philosophy and positioning

The brand frames choosing a perfume as an act of personal storytelling rather than a study of fragrance notes. "Selecting a perfume is not only about the top, heart, and base notes," its homepage states; "it's about personal stories we tell ourselves and others." Each composition is tied to a work of literature, and the company says it wants wearers "to manifest their unique characters and start writing stories of their own."

Novellista presents its fragrances as gender-neutral, and rejects what it calls "obsolete social conventions" in scent selection. GIVET describes the line as a "concept-driven premium fragrance brand" offering "exclusive and carefully crafted fragrances that go beyond the ordinary" [6], placing it in the niche segment of the market.

Products

Novellista's range consists of eau de parfum sold in 10 ml and 75 ml sizes, with more than twenty scents organised across the fragrance wheel. Each is paired with a novel: Unique Wood, an amberwood, tonka bean and vanilla composition, is linked to The Boy in the Bush; Rouge Privé, built on Damask rose, patchouli and musk, to Roxana; and Summer Flare, a citrus and jasmine scent, to Daisy Miller. The brand attributes its formulations to perfumers working in the French centres of Grasse and Paris, though it does not name them individually.

In 2025 the brand introduced a Black Edition of three unisex fragrances — Dark Mystery, Leather Privilege and Spiced Blossom — announced on 11 September 2025 and described by GIVET as "rare, sophisticated, and unique" [6]. At that launch the company reported the brand had grown to more than 45 product variants sold across several European markets [6].

Reception

Novellista's claim to "niche" status has been contested among fragrance enthusiasts. In a community thread on Fragrantica titled "New niche brand Novellista — true or scam?", reviews were mixed: some praised the scents as good-quality fragrances at affordable prices, while others questioned whether the niche label was justified, comparing certain releases to existing perfumes — Rouge Privé to Montale's Intense Café, for example — and reporting modest longevity for the price [8]. On the database Parfumo, the brand's perfumes carried an average rating of 6.7 out of 10 across more than 800 user ratings [9], indicating a measurable degree of consumer awareness.
