Inter Parfums, Inc.

6 brands · founded 1982 · United States

Inter Parfums, Inc. is a United States fragrance company, based in New York and operating in the global fragrance business since 1982 [1]. It develops, produces and distributes prestige perfumes primarily under licence agreements with the owners of fashion and luxury brands, alongside a small number of fragrance houses it owns outright. The company says its products reach more than 120 countries through a global distribution network, and it does not operate its own manufacturing facilities.

The group runs two operating segments: a European business through its 72%-owned French subsidiary Interparfums SA, and a United States business through wholly owned subsidiaries in the United States and Italy [1]. Its common stock trades on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the symbol IPAR, while the French subsidiary is separately listed in Paris.

History & milestones

The US company traces its fragrance operations to 1982 [1]. It was originally known as Jean Philippe Fragrances, Inc.; in July 1999 the business changed its name to Inter Parfums, Inc. [5]. The renaming aligned the American parent with its French fragrance subsidiary and reflected a business built around licensing designer and luxury names rather than owning a house of its own.

Over the following decades the group expanded its portfolio through a mix of long-term licences and a few outright brand purchases, adding designer fragrance agreements while acquiring the intellectual property of selected fragrance houses.

Portfolio & brands

Inter Parfums, Inc. divides its brands between those it owns and those it produces under licence. Among the brands it owns are Lanvin and Rochas, and the company describes itself as the registered owner of several trademarks including those two names [1]. In 2025 it added Goutal (also known as Goutal Paris) to its owned portfolio.

The larger part of the business rests on licence agreements with brand owners. Licensed fragrance lines named in the group's portfolio include Montblanc, Jimmy Choo, Coach, GUESS, Lacoste and Hollister Co. The GUESS fragrance licence dates to 2010 and the Lacoste fragrance business to 2012 in the company's records. Under this model, Inter Parfums develops and distributes the scents while the underlying fashion or luxury brand remains with its owner.

Acquisitions & strategy

The group's growth has combined fragrance licences with occasional acquisitions of brands it then owns permanently rather than licenses. In 2015 it acquired the Rochas brand from Procter & Gamble for approximately $108 million, taking ownership of the name rather than operating it under licence [4].

In March 2025 the French subsidiary Interparfums SA acquired all worldwide intellectual property rights to Maison Goutal from Amorepacific Europe, again as an owned brand rather than a licence [2]. The pattern distinguishes a small set of owned houses from the broader licensed portfolio that drives most of the group's fragrance output.

Ownership

Inter Parfums, Inc. is a publicly traded company. Its common stock is listed on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker IPAR [1]. The group holds a 72% stake in its French subsidiary Interparfums SA, which is itself listed on Euronext Paris [1]. This dual-listed structure places the American parent and the majority-owned French operating company on separate exchanges while keeping them within one group.
